Sir Ector - Best character in the game?
I'm not very far into the game, but Sir Ector is equal parts insane and bad ass. Can any characters match his giant brass balls? Yeah, he tortures folks and performs blood sacrifices in graveyards, but it's for the greater good, so what?

I guess you have only met Ector as your one and only arcanist right? Wait till you meet Merlin or Morgana then if you are going that route. Personally I keep Ector for his passive bonuses +100 gold per mission and bonus relic dust.

Only ever used him once- which is the moment I met him.

Yes, I haven't moved the morality bar enough or progressed enough in the story to find other arcanists.

He is really good even when you have other arcanists. He is a good fire damage dealer and crowd controller with his hexes. Still fun to use even if he lacks other arcanists raw power and mobility.

he is one of the best champs yeah. cause you need the slow, the fire damage is also insane. but merlin is WAY better. merlin can win whole battles and carry the game alone. he will destroy the entire team and is untouchable. merlin is the best champ in game. sometimes I would call him op. but otherwise, the game has also some unfair fights/levels. especially when you try to beat the game on very hard. so it is fine. morgana is fine, but not op. would say merlin is the best, then hector. first playthrough I went hector, this time merlin. both carry well. but merlin is way better.

Sages are best characters in game coz of their op team buffs that make dps like merlin alot better.

Ector is great. His main problem is his alignment. You can't have full-loyalty Ector and Merlin.

Merlin and Morgana work very well together. Highly recommend that combo. Isolde too.

Gotta keep Ector in Camelot though. Never dismiss him.

I don't use him a lot at level 17-19 now. I find his hits not so good vs. so many opponents. At this level every fight seems vs 12+ opponents at this point. I hardly use the blood hex cause of the undead. A couple of area fires doesnt prevent the insane hp opponents that stack up at this level. He would be serious for me if he was able to stun like those lightning strikes the sages have and the increased AP their spells give.

My badass is Sir Kay, with a Relic sword that gives him free first attack and another item to gain 3 move AP, he can move 4 squares, do a free attack and then a Cleave or Power attack, that's like 60HP damage total, and he's level 7 only...

Kay is da man! And he only gets better and better. At some point, you're gonna say - Ease up, Kay. Ease up. Leave a little something for the rest of them.

One of the great things about this the game is the subtle differences between all the knights. Lots of different strategy options.

I used Ector until I got Merlin. It was just about that time when Fire Blast was getting a bit anemic. And Ector was becoming unhappy with my Righteous Old-Faith path.

If you spec him like a Necromancer (aka, get the hexes and skip the fire stuff) he's good yeah.

"Sir Ector is mehh? But really any Arcanist is. I find them more of a liability than a help."

Arcanist are amazing. Running currently (beat the game and amin post-game missions atm):

Mordred
Lancelot
Ector
Merlin

Mordred and Lancelot are great and def needed to do some damage and crowd control, but two arcanist slinging AOE's (two a turn if I use Lancelots AP skill) is just nuts. Can completely decimate numerous enemies a turn like this.

For them I also highly recommend grabbing the staff relics that apply fire damage immediately once you see them pop up, takes them from being awesome to literal gods of fire able to burst down even bosses in a round or two.

If you get their gear kitted out correctly you can do 100's of damage on 5-10 enemies a turn.

This is what I love about this game, there are so many different combinations to meet different play styles.

Cheers to the devs for making a game with so many viable options!

True. Merlin can scorch everything to embers - especially with some of the relics. And that's just one of his talents.

Reminds me of the quote, "Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life." Enemies have 1-3 turns if they are touched by Merlin - tops.

Agreed. That's not easy to do.
