What I was trying to say is that Mordred may be fine with good items but still outclassed by many other heroes with good items. Plus if you build a decent vanguard, you don't need to apply the tactic of sticking everyone around Mordred for protection as enemies will be dead very quickly and this tactic is also too passive and slow.
By the way, I don't consider Mordred as useless (Marksman still tops everyone else for being the weakest) but as a protagonist and as someone we are forced to bring to many missions, he is just very mediocre and not interesting. As others have pointed out, it would be far better if we can choose Mordred's class and/or choose Mordred's skills. Just any kind of customisation will make him more interesting to play with.
* Chain lightning = Crowd controls 4 (armored enemies)
* Knocks down a 5th
* Regular lighning stuns a 6th
* Body tanks a 7th and an 8th
Yeah absolute sub-par OP! He should have a fire cone attack out of his behind too...
Sure he doesnt one shot enemies... but he charges around knocking stuff over, throws lightning to weaken ranged units and can tank for days.
A well built / geared / buffed vanguard does this in round 1: Kill everything, end of battle (or kill most of the things if they are too spread out).
A well built / geared/ buffed Merlin does this in round 1:
* drake fire / meteor = kill / badly hurt all enemies in a line of 7 tiles or 3X3 block
* mind fog = rage cc
* illusion = lure enemies cc
* crow = slow cc
* summon two worms of earth (with the relic ring) = two distraction cc
I haven't bothered to use Sir Lancelot but I heard he is better than Mordred as well. Also if I care to cc I would rather bring another mage like Morgana le Fay.
We are aware you can abuse a broken cheese mechanic to clear things with Vanguards and certain items, that is almost definitely going to be patched out or nerfed as its clearly OP and not intended.
And while Merlin is powerful he cannot do all those things in 1 turn unless you have others supporting you or serious buffs running.
Amen to that.
Are you dev?
For the second comment, neither can Mordred do all those things without support. And we were clearly discussing a scenario where heroes were "well built / geared / buffed".
I agree with that statement for the most part. I made a similar post arguing that for a protagonist, Mordred feels underwhelming. I like the idea of a Mageknight though, the concept behind Mordreds skills is cool imho.
This isn´t a binary thing folks. "Just fine" , mediocre or similar sentiments doens´t equal bad.
