I hate Mordred
The more I progress in the game the more I hate him. In the early game he is outshined by any champions who can tank as well as him and do far more damage. In later game he is overshadowed by vanguards that can kill off 1/3 to half of the enemies at turn 1 or mages that do insane AOE and crowd control or sages who can buff the entire team and perform the role of tank as well.

I always think to myself how easy each mission will be if I can bring an extra vanguard or mage instead of Mordred who for most of the battles barely do anything while others finish the job.

I think the main problem is that the game throw too many mobs at you (3 time - 5 times your party size) so having one tank is as useful as stopping a flood with paper towel, making damage dealers that can thin the enemy crowd quickly far more valuable. Plus Mordred has no taunt skill so he is a half-ass tank.

However, I should be grateful that he is not a marksman which is...well...why is that class even in the game?

P.S. Looking forward to mods that can remove character requirements for missions and allow us to ditch Mordred completely.

P.S. I have changed my view on Mordred. He is actually quite good.

I do tire of him sometimes, It would be nice to not have to have him on main missions, just because, but whatever. He's pretty good at CC people with that stun bolt, and I have some unbreakable armor thing on him which he gives to allies. So everyone posts up around him. Just got chain lightening so hoping to see him start cleaning some stuff up.

"backstab damage+ items on vanguards"? I thought we're talking about Mordred specifically?

What I was trying to say is that Mordred may be fine with good items but still outclassed by many other heroes with good items. Plus if you build a decent vanguard, you don't need to apply the tactic of sticking everyone around Mordred for protection as enemies will be dead very quickly and this tactic is also too passive and slow.

By the way, I don't consider Mordred as useless (Marksman still tops everyone else for being the weakest) but as a protagonist and as someone we are forced to bring to many missions, he is just very mediocre and not interesting. As others have pointed out, it would be far better if we can choose Mordred's class and/or choose Mordred's skills. Just any kind of customisation will make him more interesting to play with.

A well built / geared / buffed Mordred does this on round 1:

* Chain lightning = Crowd controls 4 (armored enemies)
* Knocks down a 5th
* Regular lighning stuns a 6th
* Body tanks a 7th and an 8th

Yeah absolute sub-par OP! He should have a fire cone attack out of his behind too...

I like Mordred, currently hes my guy who can charge forward and take a hit because i got him geared up to regen hp and armor as he attacks. I just wish he looked more like a knight rather than some edgeboi with bones on armor.

I dunno how you can dislike this guy - he is so sturdy and good at CC. He is even my best duelist.

I also think he is great and a staple in my line ups.

Sure he doesnt one shot enemies... but he charges around knocking stuff over, throws lightning to weaken ranged units and can tank for days.

A well built / geared / buffed vanguard does this in round 1: Kill everything, end of battle (or kill most of the things if they are too spread out).

A well built / geared/ buffed Merlin does this in round 1:
* drake fire / meteor = kill / badly hurt all enemies in a line of 7 tiles or 3X3 block
* mind fog = rage cc
* illusion = lure enemies cc
* crow = slow cc
* summon two worms of earth (with the relic ring) = two distraction cc

I haven't bothered to use Sir Lancelot but I heard he is better than Mordred as well. Also if I care to cc I would rather bring another mage like Morgana le Fay.

We are aware you can abuse a broken cheese mechanic to clear things with Vanguards and certain items, that is almost definitely going to be patched out or nerfed as its clearly OP and not intended.

And while Merlin is powerful he cannot do all those things in 1 turn unless you have others supporting you or serious buffs running.

Well, I still need to get the items/skills required to make vanguards so deadly that I can kill everybody super quickly. Until then I stick with my current strategy, because it gets the job done.

Amen to that.

Are you dev?

For the second comment, neither can Mordred do all those things without support. And we were clearly discussing a scenario where heroes were "well built / geared / buffed".
Yuri May 9, 2022 @ 4:20pm
I like him cause he is such an edge lord :gran:, but he needs a buff, or a big buff maybe,m something like more unique skills on the skill tree to shine as main character, was kind of disappointed when THE EXCALIBUR didn't shine too, that is like the weapon, bro, almost an anime sword. :er_sad:
The class of the mordred must be selectable. It's very boring.

I agree with that statement for the most part. I made a similar post arguing that for a protagonist, Mordred feels underwhelming. I like the idea of a Mageknight though, the concept behind Mordreds skills is cool imho.

This isn´t a binary thing folks. "Just fine" , mediocre or similar sentiments doens´t equal bad.
