Arcanist: Ector, don't have anyone else yet, fire blast is pretty good, slow+force can kite slow bosses indefinitely if they aren't immune to knockback.
Marksman: Dindraine, actually. Poison arrow is pretty good and she got several events in a row, resulting in sky-high loyalty.
Defender: Mordred, although more for his debuffs and control.
Vanguard: Sir Balin is a beast. High mobility with jump, 3-ap double strike, very high damage with backstab and/or surprise.
Champion: I have, like, four of them but don't like them very much, usually use Vanguard for DPS. Black knight looks promising with his jump-attack, but his money reduction trait is a deal-breaker. I also like Kay with a Death Strike better than Lanval and Brunor with their Defensive stance.
Sage: Only had Guinevere as a guest couple of times thus far. Very good as a fifth character, dunno if she can find a place in the core 4.
Marksman: IF you want a poison build, lady D is the best, she can spread poison on practically the whole enemy army, reducing their damage and eating away at their armor, the problem is like 30% of enemies in the game are immune to poison so she fluctuates between being overpowered to being useless. The other archers seem to be mostly interchangeable.
Defender: Mordred really is sort of a hybrid character. He's a defender but doesn't have the defensive stance, a taunt or any team support skills. He's more of a really tanky damage dealer, especially once you get his chain lightning skills. Percival is good in the role of the defender since he has the team armor buff, taunt and can also give AP to the team.
Champion: If you are going the righteous king path, Lancelot is a pretty damn powerful champion, got a ton of AOE attacks, and is meant to be on his own (even has a skill called lone wolf that buffs him when he's not next to allies). Basically, send him into groups of enemies and have him lay waste to them singlehandedly. Balan is a fantastic off tank for the first half of the game though. I used him until I got Lancelot.
Sage: Guinevere is top tier support sage, if you build her as a dedicated support she can make your team incredibly tough, and even act as an off tank. Morgawse however (if you choose to take her) is an extremely powerful offensive sage, she provides some team support but can also burn down the enemy really well. Depends if you want offense or defense.
Arcanist: You'll even tally get merlin, who is an amazing ranged damage dealer. Turn him into a fire mage and he'll lay waste to tons of enemies. You can also get another arcanist at the end of the old faith path but I have not gotten her yet, but I assume she's pretty strong based on her character from the myths.
Vanguard: Queen Boudica is stupid strong, the highest potential damage dealer in the game if built right. She can take down bosses in one turn with the proper combination of group buffs, gear, skill selection and positioning.
Arcanist: Sir Dagonet for his contol and aoe skills. They all pretty good thou, in late game always got a couple in party
Champion: Sir Kay. Made him a glass cannon, with the teleport skill ring he can clear crowds pretty fast
Defender: Mordred ofcourse, but Red Knight is solid too
Vanguard: I chose Lady Boudicea over Sir Balin because of his christian faith, but they both can do the job
Sage: Lady Isolde. Very decent support with her buff ap and damage abilities, and with the ice lance she doesn't have to stay in front rou to be useful
Marksman: Lady Dindraine, cause she was firs one I got. Didn't play much with this class thou.
