Damage Over Time questions. (DOT)
I typically like big damage and focus firing, thus killing enemies off quick. I've always felt like
damage over time in games was slower and thus enemies live longer giving them the chance to hit you an extra turn or two. I suppose it might be OK for rangers because it can hit and the enemy takes damage as they move closer.

I believe this game has burn, poison and bleed damage over time effects. I think DOT maybe benefits most against bosses with big HP pools.

My main question is, when I kill those enemies that then have turn timers until they revive, is it worth hitting them once with bleed, and seeing if they will die out from DOT before they are revived? If that even works?

It's the only way I can see DOT being useful, otherwise just put points into more damage per hit. IF any one has spec'd into DOT heavily and found it amazing let me know your thoughts.

Yeah, I agree. Haven't had a lot experience with the game yet, but in general what you are saying is true ofc and in some games dots dont make a whole lot of sense.

My Experience in this game was like "Oh, blood trinket, oh, 2 blood skills, nice. Ok, I will try that and skill that" - Next battle: All undead who cant bleed...meh ^^
(which btw is another issue some games have: specialisations only make sense over "generic" damage if you do much more damage as you pay with versatility)

In this game I look at the DOT effects more like debuffs which do some damage than actual DOTs. It's not like playing a Cabalist in DAOC where you dropped a couple of DOTs on a big meanie and it would crumple by the time it reached you. I like poison's damage debuff effect for dropping on the big guys so when they do hit Mordred it barely tickles, and there's quite a few items that give you a 20% or so damage bonus vs bleeding and/or burning targets.
As far as using them on the Lost before they revive, I don't think they work, from what I recall.

I was bummed that burn stopped when unit died and had to be reapplied on the lost. So an additional arrow was needed to keep the burn going so they don't revive.

I'm not sure yet about going heavy on DOT yet, I've not tried. But I did notice burning arrow worked some on the Lost. I think they had 9hp So I guess you could find it useful to hit them with burning arrow and if you had enough damage and turns on the skill you could finish them off with it before they revive. Thus letting you focus on other enemies. To much math involved for me personally to be efficient with it.

For the most part I've been doing well just going heavy on normal damage. Will explore DOT more in the future.

You can do alot of interesting things with DoTs later in the game if you get the gear for it. I have an Arcanist that is able to apply burning to 3 enemies per turn with his basic attack, and the DoT is ticking for over 30 damage, and lasts 2-3 turns, while also stripping Armor from enemies and applying tactical weakness.
Take all dot boosting skills. Damage boost on target with dot skills.

Also take all aoe skills if you have a passive that boosts all damage per aoe skill pt. Its nuts

I have not reached late game yet, sounds like DOT can be really useful then when everything has more HP.
