The reason behind making him a tanky defender is because of Perma-death. I can almost guarantee you they tried different class options and others had too high of a chance of dying. I've had some maps in act 2 where my champions get almost obliterated very quickly and I end up hiding them behind everyone else or cover for the last fight to keep them alive. doesn't always happen but when a few archers spawn in a way and you're already engaged in melee combat it can very quickly go from being fine to being almost dead.
Well I hope that the situation you talk about in Act 2 is when people already have several heroes of different classes and if they do, that's on the player then for not bringing an extra tank. If you don't have other defenders at this point so that your success depends on the main character being a defender then that's frankly just bad mission design.
As for Mordred being unique... he's more of a confused mess. Why are the devs punishing us by forcing us to use an absolute disaster of a main character?
Makes the game easier to balance as well.
I do have multiples of every class but the sage only 1 of those but I could get another if I really wanted to. the champions are the only class that routinely get damn near obliterated some times. part of it is positioning other parts is the game sometimes spawns waves or has hidden units so when they're revealed it can go very bad very quickly. if mordred wasn't as durable as he is he would constantly be wounded and low on vitality even with his regen after missions.
As far as him being a confused or weak class he is neither being able to knock units down/ ignore armor with spells and heal on attacks are all very powerful skills. yeah he isn't dropping one shots but he is the key that allows other units to get in position for powerful attacks. his versatility is what makes him powerful. the one mission I was forced not to bring him really sucked as I realized very quickly how much I missed him.
So basically you dont buy a game because some missions have a required character. Its quite common in these x-com like games to have missions with a required character/class, This genre is probably not for you,
No, this is exactly my genre. If you'd actually read my comment, you'd know that there was at least one more deal-breaker for me besides the class issue. Maybe reading comprehension is just not for you.
And I *did* buy it. It seemed awesome at first. Great concept, amazing voice work, promising intro... then it fell flat on its face for several reasons. So unfortunately, I had to refund it.
Such as? Game's fine and deserving of it's price.
The fact you think the game is fine has no bearing on my opinion whatsoever. And I didn't mention the price so I'm not sure why you'd bring it up.
I went into detail in my review, I'm not reposting it here.
Yeah the dev answered some of my questions here and that was one thing they clarified.
But why would I play a game with a poor main character who *is* required in the most important fights? I want someone who I'm excited to use in every fight.
As I thought, you don't really have justified reasons do you? Just something isn't how you want it and you don't like that. Imagine devs having creative rights of their IP. The horror.
