As proba wrote, you can recruit him, though he will need treatment to heal his vitality and injuries. Also, since he is quite strong, unless you have a strong knight at full strength, chances are that the knight you choose to duel him will also get severely injuried and you will have 2 knights in serious need of healing.

My Mordred cteamrolled him bwahahaha, now Lanval is sitting in the Hospice thinking about his life choices
