What affects prestige?
The discussion about Mission 7 got me thinking about prestige.

When houses evolve and people move in, prestige rises.
When houses devolve and people move out, prestige drops.

When a prestige-giving god gets more happy, prestige rises.
When a prestige-giving god gets less happy, prestige drops.

When you make a profit from trade, prestige rises.
When you trade at a net loss, prestige drops. Your total yearly profit doesn't matter.
(Mercantilism in ancient Mesopotamia?)

I was expecting to lose prestige when I ran out of money, but it didn't seem to matter. Not even the second time. Having lots of money doesn't seem to matter either.

I was expecting to gain prestige from meeting requests, but I didn't notice any improvement. (Haven't tried failing a request yet.)

Anything else affect prestige?

Only housing and exports. By fully developing housing and the increasing exports revenue will give you the prestige you need.

The prestige is affected by
  • population and average house level;
  • average yearly income from trade;
  • gods;
  • monuments.

To get more population from population you can
  • bring more citizens;
  • rise house level by providing better services and goods;
  • have houses with higher class citizens;

To get more prestige from trade you have to sell more.

Gods can additionally boost prestige, I think the game was balanced for pre-gods.

Monuments are simply build-and-get instant prestige. For me this is the last task for the mission. By the way, I've never tried to use them as free shrine, because they are bulky.

I think some features are not really there, for example I've never seen royal requests.

The most complete and correct answer would be Tenor’s, of course, sorry my bad.

However, you can win some missions without finishing the monument(s). And I consider the god’s bonus a… bonus, nothing more.

The most important source of prestige is still, on my point of view, housing and trade.

Consulting the goals of my 13th completed mission, I’ve gathered 3.794 prestige (of 3.300 needed), being 1,701 from population, 1.042 from trade and 1.050 from monuments. I had a 15% god’s bonus on my population.

The most difficult and rewarding prestige achievement has always been the population and trade.

Enki gives you 25% reduced consumption of high class houses.

I just managed to get mission 8 done by simply increasing the trade volume after struggling for hours. Thanks for the post! :) I didn't realize before that this will increase reputation... The game could do a better job explaining the prestige mechanic.

Hi, there is a tab in adviser (F2) dedicated only to prestige. Where you can find all sources of prestige explained in detail.
