Making money, stuck on mission 5....
FYI the tutorial is simply the first five missions of the campaign, and you have to complete each one b4 progressing. I am stuck on mision 5, constantly running out of money.

So what is the trick to overcome this? I built my peasant housing, then a small patch of workers so I d have fire/health/crime employees. Just enough food to keep em all going, not a lot xtra to trade.

And quickly Im running out of money, Seems like everything is run efficiently. If anyone has had similar issues, please post a solution.

BTW fantastic game true tribute to the great Sierra classics of the 90s.

hiya,

I think i had to do this mission twice to win too.
as you said your trade is not a lot and i think it might be the problem. i checked out some economic screens and figured out its hard to break-even with taxes alone, especially if you dont want to raise your taxes as it also increases your crime and disease rate i think.

in the end i ended up trading a lot, making sure i had a lot of extra stuff what the other cities want. after this mission i actually start every next mission by first checking out what the other cities even want to so i know what to produce for export, that way i already set up a stock from pretty much the start of the game.

don't forget to click on the trade screen (f4) and offer your goods to the market, at the bottom of this screen you will see your trade income or how much you spent on importing goods. as i believe you cant survive without trade this number should at least be more than you spent on wages alone which you can see in the economy screen (f1) it also should show trade there but the one in the trade screen actually tells your predicted income based on how much goods you offer available on the market.

also because the price you get for your goods is based of the opinion of the cities you are trading with you should also have goods ready which the city wants to receive as a gift. the more you gift the better your relation the better your income will be with that town. there is also a bonus for long trading so the quicker you trade with cities the better the bonus will be over time.
