Running in windowed [with thirteenAG's patch] breaks the 'telekinesis' particle effect
So, I've managed to get over the hill with some of the other issues people are having:
- restart PC for 60fps
- use ThirteenAG's WidescreenFixesPack to get the game running and at higher resolutions
- don't go above 1080p or you get a 'scanline' effect

The problem I *am* having though is that, once I've gotten it running with the widescreen fix, running that with a present wndmode.ini (just create a text file, call it that, run the game directly via the exe to generate its contents) to play the game windowed breaks an important, common particle effect - the 'telekinesis' particles whenever John activates something.

The screenshot on the left is the game in windowed, stretched a bit via Borderless Gaming, on the right it's the game running exclusive fullscreen[user-images.githubusercontent.com]. See how the rounded particles are blown up into huge squares? It also appears in the second cutscene[user-images.githubusercontent.com].

The wndmode.ini contains the following:

I can't intuit from this what to change to try out. I did try setting UseGDI to 0 and UseDirectDraw to 1, but no changes.

I'm struggling too. at this point I might just go buy a gamecube.

Bump, did you ever find a solution? I notice PCGW mentions you can also try using DxWnd, but when I tried using it, the game would just crash immediately after showing the DxWnd logo.
