aircraft design is pure pain
I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing, just unlocked light planes, tried everything, propeller engines, rocket engines, small fuel tanks, large fuel tanks, light bombs, rockets, heavy bombs, small wings, big wings, everything is random, every number is meaningless, but the results are always the same.

It says the thing can travel 1.8k km/h, sometimes 4k km/h yet the operational range is always something pitiful like 150~250km and it doesn't tell me why, and then putting the next random things on the planet over and over again take way, way too long, I give up, is there a mod to remove planes from the game so I won't have to deal with them from the AI as well if I ever see one?

In the game set up you can turn aircraft off.

Well I mean you can right?

Air design can be a little funky, especially early on and when needing to find just the right design going through that bloody menu over and over....

I'm a big fan of helicopters and thopers however! I'd always recommend those! Tactical and Level bombers of these can do great work as ultra mobile 'artillery.' But do note that your first helicopters will be terrible, barely having an op range of more then a few tiles. You really do need those linear techs to make them better, In my game I have heavy level bomber thopters that can reach 25 tiles! And they aren't limited by airports (but have higher readiness when operating from them.)

any way after a game started?

Nope. But I can't say I've seen the AI use them in any of my games even-though they are supposedly able to.

They aren't too big of a deal vs the AI really. You can do good work with rocket artillery if you need the extra bombardment.

Alright thanks

Check REP. - Help - Planetary if aircraft are viable.

Should be, I think, lots of random numbers

Also a great issue with the aircraft design.

Telling me how much fuel a tank holds, how much something weights, the power of an engine, all of that is meaningless, it doesn't really matter if they use liters, kgs, lbs, whatever, all I need to know is how many tiles it can fly

Sigh

0.8g and 100% atmo density. Sounds good.

Yes, that was another poor UI choice by Vic. Every step should be focussed on range.

There is an Aircraft design guide though: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2313512236

I think at the brief at the end it does?

Try a design with a light engine, biggest wings, 5000 whatever it is fuel, no weapons or cargo hold and see if the brief tells you if it can take off, or has too little range.

But yeah I 100% understand the frustration, it's a black art at best. A frustration hunt for the perfect combo at worst.

I'll still suggest helicopters as they are FAR simpler to design.

You need a model design council though, and luck finding helicopters.

Here you go, light rocket, 5k l fuel, biggest wings, nothing else =/

Wait, rockets inside of an atmosphere? They are VERY inefficient engines to be using outside of an airless moon.

Do you have a propeller engine type?

wait what?
Aren't rockets just jet engines we see in regular modern aircraft?

No those are like solid fuel rockets like we use to get the space shuttle into orbit.

Jet engines and Turbo-Jet engines are like what we use on most aircraft.
