Got it like on the second try after I realized starting the trial (as in talking to the guy) seems to reset the shell walkers and number of crates, at which point one or two of the shell walkers will always move towards picking one or two of the crates in each pile up.
An arrow or two in their vicinity should be enough to distract them from picking the crates up and going away with them.
dropping difficulty, even for a split second and saving afterward, borks any difficulty-related achievements if those are earned the same as the trophies were on ps4. Plus not everybody wants to lower the challenge when they can help it, and would rather learn how to handle it at the difficulty they're playing on for the satisfaction of it.
There is a "Sonic" arrow, on the upper tier precision "Shadow?" Bow, that does massive shredding damage in an AOE around impact. .
Tearblast Arrow
btw I think I did my trial in like 11 seconds. just to give you an idea of hwo fast you can do it.
The way I approached it is I wore the Nora Heavy armor against melee attacks and inserted two purple melee attack mods into the slots. I also drank a lightning potion as someone else above suggested, made sure I had 10 full-life potions stocked up and a full pouch of healing herbs.
I used ONLY Tearblast arrows with all purple tear mods to complete this challenge.
I slid down the rope farthest to the right (north) and after landing sprinted straight ahead to the spot with two shell-walkers. One crate was on the ground, one crate was mounted on the back of one of the shell-walkers. I looted the one on the ground immediately and then ran past the mounted shell-walker. I shot an arrow directly at the brace holding the crate and then looted it as soon as the blast cleared.
Then I sprinted left (south) toward the site with two more shell-walkers. Again, one crate on the ground, one crate mounted. I used the exact same strategy as before and after looting the 4th crate, I had 4 seconds to spare on the clock.
Again, this was a tough challenge, but once you succeed, you realize it’s just more tightly timed than any of the other challenges and there are definitely enough crates.
The challenge also lets you know if there aren’t enough crates to succeed. I found this out the hard way when trying to dislodge the crates from the shell-walker’s backs by using blast bombs. I ended up destroying all the crates and failing.
