Thursday 9PM PST Activation?
Anyone think this game will unlock at 9pm PST on Thursday (Midnight on release day in New York) like a lot of games have?

Or like 10am Friday like a few recent/random other's did?

Why would it unlock at NY Time? Valve HQ is in Washington and Guerrilla Games are in Holland.

Are NYC & Washington in the same time zone?

Let's assume it is gonna be 10am, seems the most logical in this case.

It seemed like for the longest time all games released at 9pm PST - The equivalent of a midnight release... But I feel like the last hand full of games I was excited for nonchalantly unlocked at that 10 am time day of 😅
Like they are waiting for brick and mortar retail buyers to get it at opening and make it home and the California-based server administrators to come into work?

The standard release time for Steam is 10:00 AM (PST). This game doesn't have an alternative release time listed so it will be released at the standard Steam release time.

for people who live in the correct time zone aka est, it's 1pm. That is the real time. only EST matters because you can't spell "best' without EST. "bEST."

You also can't spell "incest" without EST. That's probably not the logic you want to go with.

Have you been on the internet, some would argue you just reinforced his claims.

Yup, for many years a Friday release meant 9pm Pacific on a Thursday night.

The PC release time for Death Stranding is 15:00 BST on July 14th. This means that the PC release time for Death Stranding is also 07:00 PDT and 10:00 EST.

Google tells me this so for now this what I'm going with. I even played Death Stranding on launch day, I just can't remember what time it was. Normally I don't care about these things very much.

Except that Death Stranding confirmed it would have its own release time (as opposed to using Valve's standard release time), and that was made known at least a week before the game released. It doesn't make since that they wouldn't have done the same thing with Horizon Zero Dawn if that was actually the plan.

No - without any other explanation, I'd expect the game to unlock at 1pm Friday New York time, which is in about 40 hours plus a few minutes from this post.

Why do so many people go around talking about this "standard release time for steam" thing..? it isn't true at all.. never has been.

Games can release whenever the developer or publisher want. Some come out at Midnight (sometimes a european timezone, sometimes eastern or pacific US, sometimes different timezones are used for different regions the game was purchased in, and the game is "rolled out" starting with australia, asia, then europe, then north america), some come out at 10am pacific, but many continue to release all throughout the afternoon.

AAA games tend to do midnight releases (again, the timezone used as 'midnight' varies from game to game) where AA and Indie games more often release in the morning and afternoon.

You are correct that developers/publishers can determine the launch time. Most of them, however, do not. In the scenario that the publisher/developer doesn't manually set a launch time Valve will determine the launch time. That is 10:00 AM (PST). A global moderator also confirmed this in another thread. Educate yourself before telling other people that they're lying. Then we wouldn't be in this awkward position.
