Changed Settings at Home Page Do Not Get Saved
Hello Wastelanders. Thank you for the advice on my previous discussion. It appears that the game has more issues than what I thought. I have played more than 350 hours on Steam and never had this issue before. They are as follows:

1. At the Settings page, I normally changed to full screen and all graphics settings to max.

2. When I exited the game and then launched the game again, I found all settings returned to its default settings again.

3. I changed to full screen and all graphics settings to max again, exited and relaunched the game on Steam. Again, the settings reverted back to default.

4. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game, but the issue persisted.

Please do advise on why is this happening and what should be done to address this issue.

Thank you =)

Uninstalling and reinstalling wont do anything, your settings are saved separately in documents/fallout76 or documents/mygames/fallout76. Try deleting that fallout76 folder then start the game and set your settings.

This happened to me when I started. It fixed itself changing the settings back a few times. I suspect it's one of a million glitches this game has.

In documents/mygames/fallout76 make sure the ini files there are not set to read only too.

I mean, it's silly that this has to be asked, but I've seen this problem before.

How are you quitting the game? Are you using "quit to desktop" or are you just closing it. Cause one saves your settings, the other doesn't.

Would be my guess, the settings aren't save if you do not shut the game down properly

You need to launch/play the game in a new profile. This also fixes crashing issues for some of those experiencing them.

Jan 30 patch broke functionality for some people, no longer allowing the game to write to the documents folder for some reason.

I am having this exact same issue, not sure what to do. It used to work fine for me until I reinstalled it recently and this started happening fresh after install.

You could try deleting both Fallout 76.ini and Fallout76Prefs.ini. These are both located in Documents/My Games/Fallout 76.

Game will simply create new ones with default settings when you next launch it. This has fixed my issues of settings not saving in the past. Just be aware doing so will reset all of your game settings back to default and you will need to redo them all.

As mentioned check you have not got the Fallout76Prefs.ini set to read only. It is a common practice to do so to stop the game undoing the change to turn off the games built in VSync.

Thank you so much guys! So, after I did the deletion of the entire Fallout 76 folder at the Documents -> My Games -> Fallout 76, the game's settings are now saved and the game is now in full screen! This thread can now be closed. Thank you. =)

It's not always the case, but you'd be surprised how often it comes up.

can anyone name a game that has broken v sync and refuses to just turn it off by default instead having their users do ini tweaks in 2024?
