Carnivore + Herbivore ?
Got Carnivore mutation. Is it even possible to also get Herbivore or does the first just lock the second out?

On an aside, what would happen if I took a does or Herbivore serum?

A quick look on the Net suggests that it's either or. Carnivore seems to be the favoured mutation.

you have to get rid of one first to be able to receive the other

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

I got herbivore first.
Got carnivore second.
Carnivore got canceled out.
Next toon I got carnivore first, but herbivore then canceled it out.
I stayed with herbivore both toons.

They are mutually exclusive. Once you have one you need to remove it before you can get the other.

Currently herbivore is superior for several things but mainly xp boosts due to the magazine live and love 3 which increases healing from veggies by 50%. For some reason it doesn't just
increase healing but simply increases herbivore food benefits by 50% including xp boost. So cranberry relish goes from +25% xp to +37% xp which is a big deal.

There was nothing similar to work for carnivores as the backwoodsmen 6 magazine did not work the same way with all meat based foods. Finally on PTS now carnivore has been fixed to allow it to perform to the same level as herbivore.

Still prefer carnivore due to all melee + carry weight boosts that herbivore doesn't get. XP boosts are pointless past level 400 anyway.

Same. I prefer and use carnivore also. Just good to see carnivore finally getting fixed to allow it to perform the same as herbivore. There are plenty of other useful things there apart from just xp boosts.

I still use xp boosts past Level 400 as i want to finish my legendary perks as quick as possible on my other characters. You cannot max the first 6 legendary perks until a minimum of Level 500+. Quicker if using perk coins and perk card packs from the scoreboard. Also not pointless at all for completing the scoreboard faster. Pointless for you does not equal pointless for all.

Folks seem to keep forgetting that squirrel stew/carnivore gives +25% xp boost...

Yes, squirrel stew can give the same XP boost as cranberry relish. However, squirrels aren't a common spawn, and salt isn't that common either. Especially compared to gourds (which you can grow in any numbers you wish at your camp) and cranberries (especially in the cranberry bog). That is likely why herbivore is more popular - its far easier to get supplies in large amounts. Green Thumb will double your plant harvests (which also includes flux), while Butcher's bounty only has a chance for extra meat. And there is nothing for the salt.

Problem is that with cranberry relish and herbivore and the live and love 3 magazine you get an extra 50% benefit. So cranberry relish goes from +25% to +37% xp.

There is no carnivore version of this for tasty squirrel stew so carnivore was always inferior. On PTS now it is fixed so carnivore is equal with herbivore and can get the +37% xp.

Cranberry juice still gives XP, not that that really matters. Deathclaw and Stingwing on the other hand are awesome.

I find so few mags that they don't seem relevant.

Herbivore is exponentially better than carnivore for every build except melee

You CAN use herbivore then take a serum to suppress the negative effects and eat meat for benefits too

but
37.5% exp
11.25 int (another 34% exp)
175% critical damage (huge)
40 points of ap regen added to your base (insane)
7.5 strength
7.5 perception
7.5 Endurance
etc etc

vs much worse carnivore benefits that are also harder to get the materials to make

Lets be honest; except for a very few things like Earl, this game is really easy so it's all rp flavor.

And heavy gunners. No use for crit. And at high level, no real use for exp either. You're better off with extra carry weight so you're not overencumbered 24/7. So no it's not better for every build except melee. It's better for people that want EXP and use VATS at range. For everyone else Carnivore is better.

Not many squirrels in game except when it's Fasnacht.
