Vendor CAMP Placement
If you want to sell, is it important to put your CAMP near points of free travel (Whitesprings, 76, Foundation, etc) or will most vendor hoppers find you? Asking for a friend..

Most vendor hoppers will probably find you, unless you are at the very corners of the map (except bottom left).

Most vendor hoppers will find you regardless. I have a CAMP out in the middle of nowhere in a corner of the Ash Heap near some blight spawns for blight soup and people still visit it.

CAMP locations at the Whitespring are almost always occupied so it'd be better to find a place that has a good amount of traffic regardless of it being near a free travel point or not, like Watoga for example.

Location is important. Joining a team seems to have more effect than anything for me. The free travel for teammates usually sees them arrive in short order to check the stocks. So I see the OPs point, being next to an always-free travel point must have the same effect.

But then, being close to a popular event has a sharp effect too. My camp is right next to the cookout location for meat week. My traffic was off the charts during the event. I was making 10k a day until I ran out of stuff and couldn't be bothered to restock just yet. I had to go find stuff to buy just to get under the caps cap.

The #1 issue I've seen is players forgetting to make their CAMPs publicly visible on the map. If we don't know it's there, it's much harder to happen upon for shopping. You also need to do each individually if they have more than one CAMP.

I place my CAMPs more for me than for selling. I like them near train stations for dumping stuff I want to sell for the daily cap limit, and I like them in places there aren't other nearby fast travel points.

So long as the CAMP is visible, I've found people going a little bit out of the way to check the vendor.

As long as the icon is public, you will be listed in the "all" section of the world events and your icon is always advertising what you sell. People are mainly looking for Serums and plans they don't own, with top ups for fusion cores and bobbleheads being up there too. More things you have in your vendors, the higher the chance people come by to look at your stock. The vendors don't need to be powered to work either.
Being mindful of "who" you are trying to sell to is a good idea too. People who sell near Vault 76 are trying to bring in those newer players to buy stuff, players down in cranberry bog are more likely to sell items aimed towards higher level players.
Cap count and fast travelling around isn't much of a problem, people will join and leave public teams to save on caps as it is then free to travel to your camp, staying in a public team will definitely help. those who hop are more likely to have the perk under charisma for cheaper fast travelling costs also if they aren't too keen on joining and leaving teams.

Heh, this was me for a long time. Amazing how much more vendor traffic you get when your camp is visible on the map.:steamhappy:

If you want to sell, the most important thing about player vendor placement is always when you put it, must be outside of your house-camp, without foundations and if you see its not clearly visible, some lights. Why?

Some bad apples use it to let players die in their trap camps and loot all the junk they carry.

Also, if you want to put inside your house-camp, avoid narrow corridors, furniture around the vendor machine, or place it with upper foundations, anything we see suspicious we wont enter.

Your Camp can be anywhere, that's not the issue. Just don't play Hide The Vending Machine within your Camp. If it's above ground keep it easy to find. If it's in a shelter place a sign to let players know it's in there.

*Be aware that IF you have a vending machine in a shelter, you also have to have one above ground or your map icon won't show there's vending at your Camp.

I like to encourage players to visit my Atrium shelter where my vending is and where the largest display of my OCD collections are. To do that I Hide the above ground vending machine and place a "Market" sign on the Atrium's vault door.

Edit; And as stated in an above post, your vending machine does Not have to have power running to it for it to show on your map icon. The only reason to have power going to it is for any lights on it to light up and or any animations it has to work. IE the Cash Register machine animated draw that opens and closes. It must have power for that animation to work.

I skip these types of setups because I don't need another loading screen, and eventually someone else will be selling whatever it is I am looking for. If I can't find the vendor within a minute of loading in at a CAMP, I leave. **When I am simply vendor hopping/shopping**

Some players won't enter shelters for whatever reason and that's fine. I get plenty of buyers that will.

I do go in a bunch of shelters when looking around, and man oh man people have some nice ones, multi-tiered with different vault interiors and all sorts of cool stuff. Unlike mine which are desolate and empty except for random things I had to build to complete a daily.

I need to spend more time building.

Just bugs me that some things can't be built in a shelter, so I feel like I'd end up having to go in and out to get things done, or build items in both places to be efficient.

Only things you can't build in a shelter is Resources.

Nice thing about building in shelters is that items can be floating. Sometimes I like placing things that are up in the air and not on the ground.

* You can place items floating in an above ground Camp if you use the Merging method.

Buf, also i dont enter into shelters, one time i entered one and a pressure plate and some laser turrets welcomed me, sorry but no.

Yeah, I've fell into a few Trap Camp shelters too. I only carry 50 pieces of cloth and that's only to make full use of Junk Shield. So, I got nothing to lose.
