As mentioned hitting anything other than your intended target will reset the furious effects damage stacks. Literally any other effect is better. It is fine is you can guarantee only ever hitting one enemy, but that is not going to happen all the time.
Furious is excellent for one on one combat. The failings are, to my knowledge, with automatic melee and otherwise weapons don't register the effect unless you actually click the attack button again- so you holding down a chainsaw will register as a single strike and Furious doesn't activate. If I'm in some way mistaken or that's fixed, there's also the issue of Furious effect ceasing any time a different enemy takes damage which makes it terrible for fighting groups of mobs. Any creature-specific legendary Slaying effect or anti armor will have better results.
executioners is bugged its a 1.5x multiplier not additive damage like it should be
so against weakened enemies its death... hence its very popular in pvp
