state of the game in 2024?
I tried this a few times throughout the years with gamepass but was never really impressed. How is the game now? Has it really gotten better? One of my friend keeps trying to convince me to play with them but i'm on the fence.

Also would we be able to connect if he is on the ms store version and me on steam?

All PC players use the same servers.

A better person to convince you is your friend. They have it, they play it, they know you and what you like and don't like.

Throwing a vague "I tried it but I didn't like it convince me to play" post here won't be able to generate answers to convince you beyond your preexisting opinion.

That's fair. I should have included more details.

What left me really wanting with the game was how empty the game was really.
No actual NPCs, no real classic questing. The lack of a world really.
And yes, I know. Post apocalypse.
But that never stopped the Mad Max or regular fallout games to be engaging and have a fairly engaging narrative.

But I am also asking what is the 'end game' looking like?
What kind of activities can I expect?

and what does your friend say when you ask them?

Don't trust the word of someone who won't give you a simple answer.

The game is free to try for the next like 3-4 days just try it and see what you think. To me personally it has some performance issues I can't seem to iron out, models still t-pose on me on occasion, everything you do has a gross delay to it, and the mouse feels super floaty regardless of the sensitivity.

Fallout 76 is a RPG set in the Fallout universe 25yrs after the bombs fell. Everything is a hidden dice roll and depends on your stats. There's elaborate detailed builds to construct and explore via perk cards. There's unique versions of weapons, massive variety of loot pool, cosmetics for homesteaders, and perhaps the most unique feature is a building game where others can appreciate it in real-time live.

There's dungeons and bosses to summon. There's public events and expeditions grind. There's an open world to loot, voiced npcs, factions to join, and lore-connecting answers among the quests. The story's not as rich, nor is the ui as polished... but it's a Fallout game that's seen a lot of love over the years to make up for Todd's most embarrassing launch in history. Welcome back to Apple-lach-ya. We missed you.

well, tbh a lot has changed because the game used to just be a survival/exploration game and then they overhauled it to make it a full Fallout game. Now it has NPC's, quests, Ops & Expeditions (Dungeons), world boss events, seasonal events, the stories are really good and about what you'd expect from any other Fallout game. There have been a lot of ongoing QoL & bug fixes over the years, there's still occasional bugs but tbh it's gotten significantly better since when it came out.

I think it's definitely worth trying, lot's of new people are playing due to the show, sales, etc, and the majority of reviews are positive so I don't think it would be a waste of your time to try it now.
