White shield icon on enemy? Doing no damage.

Googling gave me ♥♥♥♥ all for answers. I encountered a lvl 7 raider in my private world as a lvl 7 using lvl 5 weaponry (hatchet and las pistol). Trying to shoot and hit the guy yielded no damage and flashed a white shield icon in my crosshair. Please, someone, explain wtf this means and how/if it's counterable. Thank you

Depends on what you were doing, what he was doing, where you were. Was he a hunter-was he part of a quest or maybe he was just hanging out waiting to see you. OR maybe just maybe a Bug, not a real bug, just a game bug.

I was near vault 76, a little ways down the road from the parking lot. He was a single generic raider just named "raider" who was hostile on sight. Nothing implying that he's essential or belongs to a quest.

he was able to shoot and do damage to me but none of my weapons could hurt him. I ended up just running away from him, twice. Do you have any idea what the white shield icon is indicating? Does it mean a target is invincible or something?

Well the ultracite titan event the main enemy has an invulnerability period and a white shield will display indicating the times it cannot be damaged.

Sounds like this is the same thing you are describing but i cannot recall any raiders that you cannot kill around the vault so i am not sure if something has changed recently.

I think I encountered a bug then, that sounds like a mechanic that wouldn't be found on some generic, random, unassuming raider digging through a broken car lol, and it definitely wouldn't last as long as it did (I returned to him and he was still invincible a good 5 mins later). Thank you for the clarification on what the white shield is :).

The white shield does denote invulnerability. A few event enemies sport it now and then. Never heard of a random raider though.

However, some ally NPCs roam the wasteland (even when not allied), like the Raider Punk. I think they remain invulnerable as well.

I have seen a few, been others on here from time to time say this . I just leave them alone and go on my way.

that's what I ended up doing, fortunately it was a one time deal so far. Thanks for the responses yall, i just needed clarity that it was a bug and I wasn't missing some gameplay mechanic or something like (Like maybe the weapons i was using was ineffective, idk).
