The game has gotten so easy i have not had to farm for cores in a very very long time, with the right legendary card you can recharge your cores easily.
The recharger requires you to have cores in the first place. And since totally spent cores disappear, you have to carefully manage the cores you do have to make sure you do not fully deplete a core. Its just easier to ignore the recharger.
1) Not strictly necessary, but it helps to have a camp close to a power plant workshop. I use Thunder Mountain and have a camp on the south shore of the lake behind the camp, so I can just walk onto the back of the workshop right by the core generator, grab them, and bug out with minimum pvp exposure.
2) Every day, the first things you should do are to claim the workshop and run the power plant to power the core generator.
3) Then, just go about the rest of your day scoring your dailies/weeklies and/or progressing your storylines.
4) Remember to go back every 20-30 minutes to pick up your cores. It holds a max of 3 cores so check back frequently and empty it every time. I'm usually on for an hour or so per day and could farm 6-8 cores easily.
Do you have the perk card that cuts power core depletion by 50%? That would help.
Do line in the sand event. You get cores as a reward for completing it.
Buy from players who are selling them cheap. I price them at 50 caps each but they are hard to sell since so many have the core recharger machine now.
If you have tons of crafting materials then get the plan for the gatling laser or ultracite gatling laser. Pop on the super duper perk and make some. You get a full core with every gun you make. Then scrap the guns to learn mods or sell for daily caps.
Get the Electric absorption legendary perk. It will recharge your core when hit by energy weapons. Be aware it will only charge to 99% and not 100% anymore.
Use the perk to double core runtime called power user. Also there is another perk to reduce or stop core usage when sprinting as well. Don't use vats in PA as this will deplete your core. You can use it but you need to be set up and have a decent supply or cores already to do so.
