It's singleplayer with multiplayer elements all the way from early to midgame, with some parts of endgame aswell. You can pretty much do all the storylines (Vanilla, Wastelanders, Steel Dawn/Reign) solo, but the Vanilla storyline ends with a boss fight that requires other players as it is a server-wide event. Other than that, you won't need another player unless you need help on some parts)

As for everything else ie events, Expeditions, Daily Ops, seasonal events, they are all multiplayer stuff.

Yes, you can join in to group activities if you want, but all quests can be played solo.

That too, most people join "Casual" teams for the small XP boost. But you don't necessarily have to talk or interact with your teammates, everyone does their own thing.

It is a FANTASTIC single player game. All time great really.

Is the multiplayer element well done? Do you guys use it or prefer going at it single player?

Here's how I would describe it

FO76 is a single player game set in a multiplayer world. In addition, there are community events you can opt in to play with others.

The MP is not great in my view, but rewarding. Events are not all that inspiring to me, but the payoff is good so that's why I'm eager to jump in.

f76 is a store with a small game attached. just like every ubisoft game for the past 10 years the store is the priority the game comes second.
its online the same way you walk around the mall with other ppl but your not really with any of them.
youll all crowd around things in mass beat them up and never speak a word to each other.
"no one speak of what just happened here, tommy put your thumbs down away" cause we are off to our next gang beating in bethesdas honor

Oh, and don't make the mistake I made where for my first year I exclusively played on a private world as part of the Fallout 1st subscription. I thought it would make it more like a single player game, but I've found that I would have enjoyed the quests so much more in the open world servers.

can you get killed by other player ?

As far as I know, work stations all around the map that you can capture and get some rewards.. are really the only places one can pvp you and kill you.... only a jerk every now and then, do that but in 2000 hours of play, only happened to me twice. doing things solo. Other wise, game is awesome imo.
You never played Fallout games? Lets say in short you can play Fallout76 solo / alone no matter the situation. But if you really prefer a single play game? Then all the Fallout series are for you excluding Fallout 76.

911 hours of play and I've never been attacked by another player. As I understand it, unsolicited attacks cause you no damage unless you accept the challenge to fight.
