Honestly that is best take on the show I seen yet.

I legit loved the first 2 episodes because there was no woke. Where's the woke? Does it show up later? I thought woke meant none of the actors are allowed to look good, or only women can be intelligent / strong, or only people of color are allowed to be main characters. So far, I have yet to see it.

On point. The show can easily be described as Addams Family meets Fallout, it was made for Disney kids without the superior Disney production experience.

Eh the show was alright. They did a far better job of doing set design than they did writing.

I actually stopped on episode 2 because the writing was getting that bad, but I decided to pick it up later and it got better.

Spoiler for episode 2:

The whole bit with the knight running away in terror from the yao guai, and then that Looney Tunes jetpack bit. Completely ruined dramatic moments. It was just peak millennial writing, and that's not a good thing.

As far as wokeness, it was actually fairly tame for something from Amazon. Maybe they're learning their lesson. Like only two of the three relationships amongst main characters are interracial, women and minorities are fairly represented in both the bad and good guys. It isn't nearly as bad as Disney's Star Wars.

Tbh though, the only character I really give a damn about is The Ghoul. Lucy is just annoying most of the time. Max is just a simp.

Spoiler for a big reveal:

I really didn't like their whole "Vault-Tec dropped the bombs" reveal. Vault-Tec was always sort of hinted at, but the least likely of the candidates for the one who dropped the bomb. Like all these companies are sitting around going "yeah yeah we'll make loads of money once the world ends!" but no one had the forethought to go "but what's the point of money in a destroyed world?" Like I could see Big MT and West-Tek going for it. They've always been on the mad scientist side of things. But why would House and the others go for it? I think it would have made far more sense to leave it at "America invaded China, and pushed too hard. The world ended when China launched the nukes".

What "woke" narratives are there exactly? This word is thrown around too often unnecessarily. If it's just the mere inclusion of politics, then maybe the post-apocalyptic genre isn't for you?

You can kind of see hints of it. Like 2 of the 3 major relationships in the show are interracial. I'm not the guy you're replying to though.

But as far as wokeness goes, I thought the show was fairly tame. It wasn't nearly as bad as Disney's slop.

It had much less woke then the Netflix slop that it turns out hardly anyone is watching too. I cancelled Disney due to it's lack of concern for exploiting children so I cannot speak to that Service. But I do agree with your point and the show feels more like The Addams Family meets Fallout then anything else. If Walton Goggin's character (the ghoul) wasn't a stand out then the show would have little else to offer most viewers. I highly doubt if it will capture much of an audience that is not already familiar with Fallout in some way.
Solardream Apr 13, 2024 @ 4:23pm
As bad as the already forgotten Rings of Power. Just a bad generic cancel pig written show, using the skin of Fallout.
That is all.

I like the show for the art and props, but the story is a little lazy and breaks its own lore. Basically, the 1st could not have happened with the reveals given in the later episodes. With a structure of reporting in and knowing exact placements the knowledge would have been present to disallow what happened in ep1. Unless revealed in S2 that it was allowed, this was just really stupid. It is going to be a little difficult since they closed much of that loop.

The actor pool is hit or miss for me; some good, most of them bad.

Do I give it a pass? Yes, it was still watchable, but the 1st half was rough. Goggins carries as the Ghoul I mean his back...

Also, side note the assaultron in the sand in ep2 was from a cosplayer Nathan Carter from No Sleep Till Cosplay. His emblem is showing on the hip. The studio just bought it and dropped it on set, lol.
