is the PVP forced?

its hard to get a straight answer with pacifist mode or its reduced damage? if I'm crafting I can get attacked? but its got pvp areas ? there is pvp but not pvp its alot of odd things I keep seeing so id like just simple answer

is PVP forced in this game as in even if I'm in passive will i get attacked by other players i keep thinking of getting it but pvp is kind of a deal breaker if i cant choose to engage

no its not forced if you have pacifist mode on ,but in a workshop area if owned or someone owns one someone can kill you or you can kill them

so you can be attacked in a workshop area if you dont own it?

or do you mean you get attacked while working in a workshop you own?

if you dont own a workshop and its unowned you cant be killed ,but if your in the workshop you own you can be killed

so basically if you want to use a workshop at all you have to have pvp gameplay is what im gathering ?

Workshop is not your camp it is different from your camp that you can build on your own.

now im confused so you can make resources at a camp so i could do that instead of a workshop?

Of course, it is, "TWO MEN ENTER, ONE MAN LEAVES", Two men enter one man leaves, Two men enter one man leaves, Two men enter one man leaves... now that the chanting is done and the crowd settles down.

No, it isn't forced there is an option to turn the passive mode on (Think it is level locked to start using, think lvl 5). There are only two aspects of the game where it can be forced upon you.
1) workshops (workstations), these are locations that are set up mainly for resource harvesting.
2) there is one event "Monster Mash" located in Watoga High School that is PVP, so taking part in that event will be PVP.

so you cant do workstations in a non pvp place? like your camp?

You can if you're lucky or unlucky depending on how you look at it.

If you own a or are in a workshop zone, someone can try to claim that workshop this activates PVP for that zone, a battle for ownership.

Camp = your home, you can place many workbenches and decorations etc. you can put it many places on the map.

Workshop = preset area that has some resources that can be claimed by a player.

Yes. There are many resource node locations on the map where you can build a camp and put resource collectors on these resource nodes. It is certainly possible with more than one camp slot to have several basic camps and you simply select the camp with the resources you need to get more of. You cannot get engaged in PvP in your own camp if you have pacifist on at all times.

To be honest I have never really bothered with resources collectors either at workshops or camps. It is far easier and quicker to directly get resources from where they re spawn on the map. Resource collectors are quite slow while getting junk from the source you can get way more far quicker.

New player = avoid workshop area ... !

That being said, if you want to invest time to devlop a workshop, do this on private server.

If you have a "challenge" related to workshop, stay crouched, do your things and leave the area.

Bad things or a bad situation occur, server hop and that's it.

I will claim a workshop and splittttt. If you work it , set up ore machines etc. Another player can show up and fight you. If you wait a bit it will get attacked by npc's that you can kill. If one is already claimed i stay away. There will be resources around in the ground, silver, oil, ore that you can loot.
