Auto axe with the gun nut perk card
I just started using the auto axe, and I am loving it. But one thing I do not know. Does the gun nut perk slow down the degrading of the weapon? Because the description says it is for guns, but I am thinking it should also work for other weapons. Can someone answer this question please?

My Auto Axe SPECIAL loadout uses the upgraded Makeshift Warrior perk card to slow degradation so I can get through the big boss fights like the three robots and Earle without it breaking.

Also if you get the electric mod it benefits from science perk cards.
On a related note my favourite has anti armor as the first star and lightweight as the third star.
It took me ages to learn the second star ability of Heavy Hitter which i did by making and scrapping "Face Breakers"
The Heavy Hitters makes a noticeable difference to how long it takes to kill things.

I did read about the electric mod. I am just 10 stamps short on that one. As for the legendary stars, I will have to work on that. As I do not have many options available. So for now, I will start hitting up player vendors. Thank you again.

Makeshift warrior = Slow degrade of all melee weapons,
Stable tools = slow degrade rate of all AUTO weapons(Auto axe, drill, mr handy buzzsaw, chainsaw) - Stacks with Makeshift warrior
both in int.
Add luck of the draw(luck) for a pretty decent chance (at luck 15+ total, including buffs) it will repair itself automatically as u use it (only to 100% though, will go from 200% to 100% then hover around 100% forever if your luck is high enough, really don't need much, 9 base + 6 luck food will cover that)

Apart from Makeshift Warrior perk and the Stable tools perk, the durability 3rd star effect can be decent for some weapons that need it where the other 3rd star effects don't really do much for you. Agree with 90%RW being good but if you have weapon weight reduction already from armour, then durability can be good.

Thank you guys. I will play around with my special stats, and perk cards when I get on the game tomorrow. As well as try and find the legendary mods I need for it. I do want to get this to work. As even now, it is a lot of fun. So I can only imagine what it be like when everything is figured out.

Something you might want to try out is use third person view in some situations.
I run through expeditions or where there are mobs in third person and it works better.
Also AP buffs help a lot to keep it running longer.

That makes sense. I did look at 1st person, and it takes up a lot of the of the screen. But thankfully I play in 3rd person anyways, so no problem there. As for the AP, time to make use of the coffee machine.

Chainsaw, duel bar, flamming vampire, way better.

As an AutoAxe (Vampire) with 5* MakeshiftW I use Improved Repair Kits mostly before big fights or in one case during Earle. Otherwise it's a rare occasion when I need to repair the AA.
Also if you regularly participate in certain nuked events (yes, which are now less common) (or Encryptid & Project Paradise) you may gather a significant stash of Improved Repair Kits which make the AA a 'moderate maintenance weapon' at that point.

So couple tips, there is a perk that further helps auto melee weapons called stable tools that stacks on top of makeshift warrior and the electrical mod for the axe also allows your auto axe to scale with the science perks on top of all the 2h damage perks. Finally, don't bother getting martial artist since auto melee weapons like the auto axe recieve no benefit from swing speed boosts.

Then my friend you are doing it incorrectly.

AutoAxe will always be good but chainsaws still have a edge as they're much more compact for the same killing speed.
