[SOLVED] Vsync and limited framerate both cause issues, but turning those off also causes issues
Feels like I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. If i turn on vsync or limit the framerate, the game becomes a stuttering mess jumping between 30fps and 50fps. But if I turn off vsync and have no framerate limit, I straight up just stop moving indoors, my character can't move at all when in interiors. Am I just stuck picking between one bad thing and another? How do you people live like this?

I play with the VSync turned off in the ini and a FPS cap of 140 FPS at 1440p and run in full screen mode and get a very good experience. This is what fixed my stutters i used to get.

If you turn off the VSync and unlock your FPS it is a must to limit the max FPS of the game. If the FPS goes too high it will cause control issues like you experienced.

Turn off the VSync and then cap the FPS to something at or under your refresh rate and you should be ok.

If you have a Nvidia GPU you set a FPS cap for Fallout76.exe in the 3D settings of Nvidia control panel. For an AMD GPU it is in the AMD Adrenaline software.

Just to add - in case you dont know how to cap your framerate - I find this article helpful. Where you cap it depends on your graphics card.

Yeah, I've limited the framerate in my AMD drivers and it caused the same issues as turning on Vsync, unfortunately

I'll give this a try, thank you

If using NVIDIA then Just leave Vsync off and set a Frame rate max via NVIDIA control panel and if you get Tearing then try it on again. Set max frames to 59.

Max frames shouldn't be above 60 for Fallouts/Skyrim. I think this issue is fixed in Starfield

Or try VSync set to fast instead of fully on. If you have a GSync supported monitor then turn it on for the game and use GSync instead as it is superior to VSync anyway for eliminating tearing.

Like many i have been playing at well above 60 FPS for years with zero issues. I have my game set to a 140 FPS cap with GSync and it works great.

I've had luck by turning off all forms of vsync. In game/ini. and in nvidia control panel. I just locked my fps to 10-15 fps above my monitors refresh rate to avoid screen tearing. Also fun little fact almost all monitors can be overclocked to have a higher refresh rate than factory.

It doesn't glitch out at all? Doors all open quickly?

I tried this strategy of limiting the FPS in my Adrenaline software, and it has the same effect on the game as running it with vsync where it stutters between 30 and 60fps

It doesnt matter what I set my max framerate to, if I limit my framerate at all, the end result is always the same. The game stutters between 30 and 50 fps, doesnt matter if i lock it to 60, 120, 144, or 165. If i turn off the frame limits, it runs at around 200fps outdoors and around 400fps indoors and breaks itself

I'm running a 7900XTX with a freesync monitor. Whether i turn freesync on or off, I havent experienced a different in the game's behavior. It still stutters between 30 and 50fps with the framerate limited, and breaks itself when it isnt

In my post it states that I have already tried limiting the framerate with vsync off, and that it causes the exact same issues as vsync. It causes the game to stutter between 30 and 50 fps

Did you do the iPresentInterval=0 in the ini.? Tried turning shadow distance to low? Disabling on screen keyboard? Disabling game bar? Setting the game to admin? High priority?
