Here's a few stash-management tips from personal experience without Fallout 1st
I'm from a country where Fallout 1st is not available. Even though I can and wouldn't mind spending a bit extra for convenience... I simply can't. So I have to make do with the base Stash size. As such, over time, I've learned to manage my Stash and... Well, maybe some of these things would be useful to some people without Fallout 1st, maybe not. I dunno.

And no, this won't be some dumb "newbie-oriented" thing like... "Convert your junk into base scrap materials, rather than leaving it in original item shape". No. I'll leave that to "gaming journalists" omegalul.

  1. Limit Junk to 10-20, with few rare exceptions: Once you finish setting up your Camp and building it up to your imagined concept... You really do NOT need more than 10-20 of each resource in your stash. No, you don't need that 3000 Steel or 1000 Cloth or 6000 Wood. You really don't. Everything in the world respawns and there are even ways to force said respawns faster too. So whenever you REALLY need some specific resource - just go out there and get it quickly, or just buy from vendors (railroad stations or the Whitesprings Mall), rather than hoarding "for later". My three exceptions would be Lead, Steel and Acid. I will explain further down below as to why;
  2. Do events - Scorched Earth, Project Paradise and Encryptid hand out free Improved Repair Kits like candy: As such... you'll also won't really need to even stash "extra" resources that are used for your repairs - be it Ballistic Fiber(for armor) or something like Screws(commonly for guns too). With how generous these three events (Scorched Earth, Project Paradise and Encryptid) are with Improved Repair Kits... You really don't need those extra resources for repairs, as you won't really repair your stuff on the workbenches anyway;
  3. Not directly about Stash-space, but more on topic of item repairs: And yeah... Those 200% Repair perks? Useful on paper, but with overabundance of Improved Repair Kits (150%) you don't really need em either. Same thing (being "a waste") can be said about Perks that reduce the rate of armor/PA/weapon breaking - those are only useful on paper, but mostly are a waste of perk-points on practice. Exactly because of the Improved Repair Kits. Sure, keep those perks around, just NOT slotted in your everyday combat build - for weapon/armor modding, as some stuff requires those in the first place. Basically, for that "Crafting" alternate build that you switch to when in your Camp, ya know? Plus there are A FEW exception cases like the full-auto Railway rifle, which breaks hella fast even with the max rank perk + the -50% weapon breaking speed legendary effect. That thing still chews through Repair kits like crazy lol;
  4. Weight Reduction Perks and You Your Stash: Your weight-reduction perks - weapon weight, armor/PA weight, meds weight, food weight, ammo weight, explosive weight - all of these only work in your own inventory! They stop applying the reduction effect to items that go into Stash. IMPORTANT NOTE: When you select a stashed item while having a reduction perk equipped - the description of this item will show you the reduced weight, of what it would be in your backpack. While in reality, in the Stash, the item weights in full. EXAMPLE: Let's say a Heavy Weapon is 10 weight normally. With the Bear Hands Rank 3 (-90%) in your inventory it will be 1 weight instead. When you place it in the stash - it WILL take up the full 10 from the stash space. And when you hover over that thing placed in your Stash (with the perk still equipped) it will tell you 1 weight... but in reality, it's actually 10, the full weight. Same applies to everything else that has weight-reduction perks. Hope I explained this clear;
  5. Stashed Legendries for daily Scrip-machine: With the above point in mind... Sometimes, when low on Stash space, it's more beneficial to actually carry some of those legendaries(that you'll dump for scrip on next daily reset) on yourself, in your inventory, rather than in the Stash. Exactly because of the weight reduction perks, if you run them;
  6. Use it or lose it - stashing Consumables is pointless: Never, I repeat, NEVER stash Food/Drinks, Aid items, Explosives(Grenades, Mines, 40mm, Missiles), Fusion Cores or Ammo. Same reason - weight reduction perks do not apply in the Stash. So if you aren't actively using those things "here and now", in your day-to-day gameplay... Just sell/gift/drop the stuff. It's just wasting your Stash space if you keep it “for later”. Trust me, you won’t ever use it “later”. It’s now or never lol;
  7. Camp Vendor management: Items in your Camp Vendor obviously also take up space in your Stash, as they are technically (and literally) IN your Stash. So... Don't put up like 500 Stimpacks in there, for example - each Stimpack without a meds-reduction perk is 0.75 in weight... 500x0.75 is a whopping 375 weight, which all take up your STASH space! Same applies - again - to everything that can be weight-reduced via perks when carrying on yourself. So if you really wanna sell something – only do it in smaller batches, rather than in crazy bulk numbers;
  8. Use the Ammo Converter(buy it from Atomic shop for your FREE-EARNED Atoms) as "extra ammo storage": Meaning... You can convert various ammo into "points" inside the Converer and just have them be there until that emergency moment when you are running out of ammo or picked up some new gun that uses a different ammo type - then just use up those stored ammo "points" inside this machine to get your ammo! All without actually spending any of your Stash space for hoarding various ammo types, as these “points” in the Ammo Converter are… Well, just points, virtual currency, not some “item” with weight that you have to stash (like the Ammo itself);
  9. (Follow-up about Ammo Converter) Craft 2mm Electromagnetic ammo into points instead of other ammo types: Why 2mm over any other type of ammo? Multiple reasons: 1) It only requires Lead + Steel to craft - two out of three "exceptions" I mentioned before, while the third, which is Acid, is used to process Lead Ore into Scrap; 2) Both Lead and Steel are super easy to acquire in mass numbers – be it via looting or outright buying Bulk from vendors; 3) Unlike Railway Spikes(which only require Steel), the Conversion rate is simply better… Especially for your sanity - to spend less time clicking through this obnoxious UI of the Ammo Converter. 2mm converts at a rate of 15/150/1500 for 70/700/7000 points... Railway Spikes are 3/30/300 for 10/100/1000 points only. Believe me - it's best to farm some extra Lead Ore (in the Lucky Hole Mine) or outright buy Lead + Steel bulk from vendors and craft massive amounts of 2mm(Super Duper + Ammosmith + Ammo Factory legendary), then quickly dump it for A LOT of points in one go, rather than sticking to Steel-only Railway Spikes and having to click through the machine for oh-soooooo-looooooooong, sooooo maaaaaany times… Ugh;
  10. We’re all in this together, so do not be greedy or selfish: Don't hide items you drop in a bush - someone else might need them when you don’t! Especially since you’re dropping them anyway, so might as well someone else have it. Drop your excess items either in an obvious spot in your camp, so visitors who came to check your shop could take it off the floor (if they need it)... Or go gift your excess stuff to people! Either directly teleporting to people or at least placing in the most commonly used Donation boxes - the Wayward and Whitesprings Resort/Railway station would be my guess of being the most commonly visited;
  11. Fight the urge to loot everything… I know it's hard. I fight it on a daily basis myself: But really... You don't need ALL of it. And whenever you DO need it one day - you CAN just go and get it, super-fast. This applies to junk, ammo, fusion cores, food/drinks, meds... Everything can be found easily (when you know where) and available pretty much at all times, thanks to server-hopping. This one tip here is the most difficult to “accomplish”, as it requires you to work on your habits, but... FIGHT IT! Fight this urge!
  12. Power Armor legendaries for scrip? Too much weight OR micro-management for little return: Just check what the effects are. If it's something you'd use on your PA (if you use PA at all) - then sure, pick it up and place on your chassis. If it's some trash roll, worthy only of scripping? Forget it. Don't pick it up. Believe me when I say this - I've tried to work-around the extremely heavy weight of separate parts by having up to 7 "storage" PA chassis placed in my stash. As "clothes hangers" of sorts, since parts that are on a chassist weight nothing, while the chassis itself weights 10. So it was 7x10=70 weight, but being able to store full PA amount of parts on each. It's a bit of micro-managing (pulling out them one by one, slotting the items, putting back), but can be done. Problem is tho... You can be "unlucky" as I am and get like 30 left arms and 50 right legs drop... but zero of other parts. So 7 is simply not enough for how many of the same part types the RNG gives you. So you have to go back to storing PA parts "as is"... Which is a big no-go. So just don't. Don't pick that stuff up, you're better off only storing regular Armor and Weapons for scrip instead.
That's about it, I suppose. Hope this helps all of you non-Fallout1st players out there!

Lastly, before this thread scrolls off into history on this forum, you should seriously consider turning your learnings into a Steam Fo76 guide and posting it to the guide section here.

Thanks again for the effort..
Thanks! Might actually do that.

I know you kind of touched on it. But I would reiterate don’t store ammo you don’t actively use. Yes some of it can weigh every little with the right perks. But if you aren’t using a grenade launcher, missile launcher, or fatman. Saving 40mm grenade rounds, missiles, and mininukes is a complete and total waste of inventory and stash space.

Additionally, don’t hold on to items for “sentimental reasons”. Yes this might be the first 3* you got at level 25. But you’re level 250 now and you are NEVER going to use it again. Just let it go.

Same for many other items. If you haven’t used it in a month. The odds of you ever using it are very low. And the weight could be used for something you actually use.
Thing is - all weight reduction perks stop working the moment you put something in the stash. Yes, that includes ammo. And sure, some ammo types can weigh very little even without perks too(5mm even in large quantities, for example)... But it's STILL a waste of space, if you're not using it/won't ever use it in the future.

About sentimental reasons - yup, full agreement there! Good point.

There are 3 star legendaries with @Weapon weights reduced by 20%@ effect. Put 5 parts and "1 star perk card" on each type (carbine, shotgun, heavy) and watch how your combat rifles or laser rifles become to 0.1 or so. Sorry my poor english. Topicstarter made great job))
Thing is... Both of these things - the armor effects + perks - only work in your inventory and stop affecting the weapon weight the moment you put them in the Stash. And this thread is about Stash weight management, sooooo... :D

So... I did a thing, as suggested:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3255540775
It's mostly the same, but some parts got reworded/re-written a bit. Plus given it a "TL;DR" version at the top.

Good job. It's so easy and doesn't take much work at all. It's almost like these lazy people who complain the stash is too small just want the game to play itself.

Wall of text and long instructions like you need to make an octopus risotto or something. No thanks, I think I will just order at the restaurant and eat. And pay greedy Bethesda.

I think many learn this playing for some time. I always go for plastic junk to bulk it. Often I will sell bulk junk to a vendor.

Yep. Here's why the title says: "from personal experience" :conhappy:
