Does two shot not work with auto grenade launcher?
Edit: Does two shot not show the extra damage when you have damage numbers turned on? Because I'm shooting super mutants right now and the two shot does seem to be killing faster.

I was just doing some testing with a TS launcher and another launcher I have without Two Shot, but it has 25% damage while aiming and I noticed that it actually does more damage than the two shot launcher. Does two shot not work how I thought it did? Or does it just not work with the auto launcher?

It definitely does work, though the extra spread can make it difficult to land hits with both grenades and if you do, the damage numbers tend to overlap

I have grenadier so that shouldn't be the problem. -shrug-

Not only does it work, its best in slot for any heavy build, bloodied or full health.
Ordinarily, the two-shot comes with a damage penalty to the weapon's damage, but the explosive payload is separate from the impact (which is 1), meaning it effectively is a +100% to your dps. If you are worried about the spread, you can always go for torso shots in VATS, and both grenades will home in on a 'hit'.

Does the grenade actually have to hit? Or can I shoot the ground and the explosion will be good enough?
I'm a newbie with explosive weapons.

Direct hit you will get more damage but a near miss will still cause splash damage which is why you want grenadier for the larger explosions.

Damage numbers often overlap each other so it can be hard to see exactly all the damage you did. Also they are not completely accurate. I would go and use the different weapons and prefixes and try them out to see what actually takes off the enemies hp bar and kills faster, instead of relying too much on the damage numbers. Since the last major update they have been extremely unreliable for me on many servers.

Also the way that explosions are coded to work in this game means that the explosion will start from the ground and radiate up and out. Regardless of where you hit the enemy. So landing a grenade/missile etc right on a targets toes often will give you the max damage. You will see this easier if you use a gun with explosive 2nd star effect as shooting the head will deal far less explosive damage vs hitting the legs, as the head is further from the ground on the outer edge of the explosion radius. It is more of an issue on tall enemies like behemoths but something to be aware of.

Two shot is best prefix for explosive launchers as it deals two times the damage unlike how it works for other two shot guns. Way back when (before update 5 or 6?) two shot did double damage for all guns with the effect but it was changed to be 125% total damage or 62.5% per shot. Shotguns with two shot are unique as it only adds one pellet for 9 instead of 8. You don't get 2 times 8 pellets as that would be totally busted.

Old way of thinking. Was 'fixed' some time around the legacy purge to radiate from where you hit.

There you go. Did not remember seeing that had been changed. I was likely on one of my big breaks and was intentionally ignoring all game news.

Not doubting your knowledge Mooman, but i still see head shots consistently deal less explosion damage vs legs. Could just be the servers i am on as we all know the damage number are not to be 100% relied on.
