Broken melee damage after skyline valley.
I'm sure i'm not the only one noticing how their "balance" of damage on melee weapons completely broke the weapons and got them do basically a lot less damage? It's especially showcased when i look at my auto axe and chainsaw who goes up by 5 dmg from eating a tasty yao guai roast that literally gives +170% additional melee damage? It also does it on regular melee, i had 467 and now i got 366 damage on a fire axe (after all food buffs). They did not balance sh*t but more nerfed the f*ck out of melees in favor of the bloodied meta (once again, surprised?) but let me know your thoughts, please and have a good day!

It's not broken there was an Auto Melee, Electrified mod rework that wasn't listed in the patch it was one of those hidden nerfs.

They want you using hack and slash builds with proper optimized melee weapon choices. Not just holding trigger and mowing the lawn.

Maybe now melee weapon prices will go up?

Except they also nerfed regular mod auto melees and non-auto melee, used to deal from 400 to 545 dmg (with anti armor perk) from power attacks like the fire axe or the meat tenderizer but now it does 233 to 366, completely nerfing these weapons, used to do 250 with regular mods on auto axe and now it does 170 on no mods WITH food buffs. And melee damage food buffs are either non-existant or completely worthless, adding a mere 5 damage bonus to an auto melee with a clearly shown food that i supposed to give +170% on carnivore. Not even, non-auto melees got nerfed too and god forbid the melees doing electrical damage like the war glaive.

Oh and don't forget unarmed too.

They love to favor these bloodied builds, easily the biggest joke. Most of these fallout 76 youtubers you see make "builds" but they all involve abusing rad damage and broken perks like serendipity and nerd rage but most people love the obviously duplicated railway rifles and nuka quantums.

Zweinhander is constant 500+ on reg mobs, behemoths etc, if you play it right, and full health build, the biggest crit ive had is 3500.

It was a nerf and a buff at the same time they reduced base physical damage on the weapon by 40% and added base energy damage equal to 60% of the base physical damage. Damage now is a 40/60 split (net: 120% of base physical damage, split between two damage types) has been applied to the auto-axe's and chainsaw's elemental mods. ALSO, the auto-axe gained the +20% base damage that the mods were originally granting it.

Auto-axe
Base prior to Skyline: 26 physical (at level 50)
Electrified prior to Skyline: 31.2 physical + 15 electrical

Base after Skyline: 31 physical (at level 50)
Electrified after Skyline: 18.6 physical + 18.6 energy


Chainsaw
Base prior to Skyline: 16 physical
Dual Bar and Flamer prior to Skyline: 31.6 physical + 20 fire w/o other bonuses
Actual damage prior to Skyline: 19.2 physical + 10 fire w/o other bonuses

Alright buddy, i basically tested by playing melee with my auto axe and chainsaw (and my other melees) pre-skyline valley due to meat week and after the "balance" all the melees were nerfed, NOT just the rebalanced electrical damage. If you see pre skyline auto axe (no mods included) and after the update, they seriously cut the damage by nearly half on both chainsaw and auto axe, my chainsaw used to be 143/72 (fire) and got to 67/63 which is a total downgrade not a rebalancing. The auto axe went from 203/68 (electrical) to 124/83 which is once again a downgrade, the no mods auto axe may have been the most heavily touched since it does 170>173 on no mods which was supposed to be "buffed" (post skyline with food buffs on my full health), which pre-skyline would've been way higher. They just nerfed it plain and simple. And for the 10th time, not just auto melees but regular melees too, there's no nerfed AND buffed at the same time, it's either nerfed or buffed and we clearly knows which end these weapons got.

Zweinhander is not the only melee unfortunately. Some like the fire axe, meat tenderizer got hit, speaking of this weapon since it came up often, can you re-roll the 1000 degree knife? If not then it's very not great, melee require the use of hack and slash but crit builds are often not worth using on melees, especially due to the lack of crit infused items for carnivore. Executioner is not worth since either the enemy dies in one shot or takes forever to go to the 40% health part of the weapon and with extra power attack, you'll swing very slowly and one shot most enemies, making executioner a bit worthless, like the head hunter's assassin which is an awful 1*, the headhunter should've been vampire since it makes sense to cursed looking weapons and to the actual grim reaper lore which would've been a neat reference (grim's job is harvesting souls). Which they allow you to re-roll these.

Dude you dont need vats or hack n slash for any weapon in melee, i dont use vats full stop and have no dps or game play issues ever with melee. so what are you on about. Also no, no new weapon is re-rollable.

You mentionned using crits, that's why i talked about it. "The biggest crit ive had was 3500.", should specify it was top damage instead then. And yes you could just power attack away but hack and slash is way more viable for area of effects and that melee weapon is VERY slow with that 40% power attack instead of swing speed which is not that great when dealing with multiple enemies doing firing squad on you.

the "+ x% melee damage" does not mean 'PLUS X% of what YOU HAVE damage" it is "+X% of your BASE damage.

And during actual use(test it on both high defense and soft targets, IE mirelurk backs - queen works well anywhere but her legs, and cars for 'soft' targets)

U will see it does quite a bit more and with AUto melees being such insane speed the damage is intense.

Honestly all the griping in this thread is from people who stare at the cards / tooltip info and just spaz-gaskit blown react.

Melee is FAR from 'under powered and nerfed' (ESP auto melee, as I said, It is the EASIEST I have EVER, EVER, E-V-E-R seen it in this game and I have been here since the beginning. Auto axe is freaking EASYMODE. Even the hardiest targets go down (IE SOLO EARL II-Frikin-E, ACTUALLY SOLO, as in nobody else joins, pop a company tea, do a 360 to slaughter the random addon weenies, and you can kill earl and many of his weenie friends, in less than 5 min. (I admit, it does take a vamp auto-saw but it's EASYMODE with auto melee)


LOL I cannot fathom what it would be like if the OLD way of 'stacking' melee damage food still worked. U could stack every single 'added melee damage' food buff and get your numbers to absolute stupid amounts. If that was working today, esp with those higher value foods(IE 170, 80, etc) and with how many NEW melee foods are now out there, it would be 100K+Dps easily.

Of course it's vampire being top notch, all i pointed out was the obvious nerf in damage from my own testings and asked if you noticed it as well, which you obviously did and wanted to know your thoughts. I never said it was impossible to play post-skyline with it but noticing how most melees got a "rebalance of variant damage types" but is just a "nerf" in other words by looking at the weapon stats after doing meat week events and doing skyline. I mentioned "broken" because the damage increase from other food items too got badly changed but oh well. I also remember the food buff stacking but the tasty recipes barely helps now anyway since they barely increase damage, which is a bit misleading to some melee weapons now.
