Vault 63 was not built to get control of nuclear silos! It's more like a project for a rich person(Hugo) because he purchased much of the land around Shenandoah Park
And if the series is cannon Vault-tech sold alot of vaults for rich peoples to do whatever they want
First I ran around and surveyed the area using the towers to find locations on my map.
Checked everywhere out then started the quest.
Being at a level in the mid 250's I was overpowered so nothing was a challenge.
Probably more enjoyable for a newer character.
A couple of highlights.
The Shadow that followed me around was a hoot.
I wasted so many shells shooting at it to no effect.
When I visited the Communist camp I must have caught them at a bad time because they were all running around in their underwear.
Also I don't like map areas that are dark. Foes don't show up very well on my setup.
Wastelanders, while annoying at times, were meaningful because we made sure people got the vaccine and introduced gold, which was important to rebuild the economy. I loved the skill checks. Best part was probably being mean to Overseer for leaving me alone to deal with the Scorched problem during main quest line.
BoS quest line had some impact on the other major groups and we can always excuse their lack of influence on the state of the region with them being basically three real deal BoS members and bunch of drafted locals who have done some push ups.
Those new "Responders" annoyed me a lot, because they were just there to introduce new mechanic to the game. At least we've got AC story later, so we kind of had a taste of New Reno of the East, but with no hookers, blackjack or normal chems. Hopefully they expand Pitt and AC content.
This dlc though was a let down. Such a nice region, nice story line ideas (such as learning about Hugo's crimes from his kid's ex), but in the end it's just a bunch of selfish ghouls telling me to run around dealing with their bs. This new threat doesn't make any sense, same with anti nuke tech. What's worse is that none of the choices we make matter or have any impact on the region. Writting was really cringe at times. At least I had some fun by being mean to every possible character and picking the worst choices.
But yeah its a lot of look hey we designed a cool vault, and there's this German Guy who's obviously evil bit has enough going for him to be interesting.
Overall it's about on the quality level of the Fallout show which is also the most Fallout thing Bethesda has been attached to.
Which is a very long way of saying it's an upward trend writing quality wise.
But yes grind the events and the world boss for more shiny toys.
Cuz at the end of the day fallout 76 is a game about guns having lots of guns, and walking around with 350 weight capacity and 90% weight reduction.
I had that set long time ago, mainly for collecting ore. But since they introduced "contextual ammo drop" aka unlimited ammo for everybody, I don't make anymore since for every bullet I spend I get 5 more for free. So I scraped my beloved Excavator because of the horrendous and stupid game mechanics.
The "Lost" just feel like re-skinned Scorched. The only difference it seems is, they get power armor sometimes, and they got Feral Lost that explode. Well I guess they are a bit more bullet spongy too.
My character that chose the walk away option keeps running into 1hp Lost. I'm not sure if it's related to the option.
But one conversation with Hugo really bugged me. The one about the boat. I picked an option and he basically said humour him and assume the opposite... WTF... why even have an option if you are forced into a set conversation?
Sadly complex conversations aren't part of the current BGS's 'RPG' plan.
