Gonna be real honest...
... the new lands and the locations - or rather the way they are made, their "quality" - heavily remind me of some amateur mods that add new locations to previous Bethesda games (anything from Morrowind and further). And not something high quality, from an experienced modder, but some beginner at best.

The whole added new landmass is bland and even absolutley flat in some places. Hell, some parts of the forest are literally missing huge patches of grass, with a sharp edge where the grass suddenly "ends". And the POIs are a mish-mash of existing models(only rarely re-colored) AND oh-so-poorly placed(floating/colliding through each other/etc), like if - like I already said - an amateur modder did it instead of some map modellers at Bethesda.

Did they outsource this stuff to some modders or something, for "zero investment" update?

Honestly, with the whole turkey theme it seems like it was meant for a September release and got pushed forward. The Trading Post is a free travel location but there's nothing there. Feels like there's several places that events should be taking place like Camp Liberty but there's only been one rotating event, (and the nuke boss). They also want us to build bases there but there's a surprising lack of flora to build around, that's sometimes a big draw for settlers who use things like firecaps, aster, glowing resin and firecracker berries to make the best cooking recipes.
Now that I think about it, it has a very 'first year of FO76' vibe. Released a little bare to be patched with more content later.
Also sidenote, Fallout is supposed to be 1940s-50s, why suddenly a summer camp 80s like theme with the Jason masks?

some young modder who never played fallout 1-4 definitely made the new zone, its totally off

Yep that's what I found as well, the mobs are evenly spaced, the features bland, boring to make camps in with mob spawns on every spot.

Haven't found any resource nodes (for camp extractors to get placed on) either which is weird.

Well Bugthesda does depend on Mods a lot to fix their ♥♥♥♥ ups as they are pretty incompetent

Updating the original map is a massive undertaking. That thing is poorly optimized on many levels, but you're talking about years of dev time to fix it. Their approach has been fine for me. Update individual locations as the game evolves and apply the new techniques to the new zones.

One thing I'm definitely noticing is that there are fewer plants and resource nodes, but there are definitely a lot of flat spots, just big enough to build a CAMP, while still keeping the elevation intact.

The new zone, outside of the main story quest is barren as hell. Many of the POIs lack even a single mob. The POIs that do have mobs, have like 3-5 of them and they are spread out so you hardly ever fight more than 1-2 at a time. It feels like they had to rush it out to capitalize on the momentum of the Fallout series on Amazon. The zone needs more quests that deal with each POI. It needs many more indoor areas that have high mob density, hidden objects to find, stories, etc. Half of the new area is just empty and forgettable.

So... on par with the Pitt and AC.

Next update is bringing more to Skyline

New content with map uh yes please. how long has this game been out? how long did the OG's of the game have to wait for anything new? Imo this is for them for all the grinding they done.

if it wasn't clearly split into multiple updates it would feel about on par with an eso expansion and those are pretend full price triple A premium experiences. it still half taken from the western skyrim expansion and spinning it for fallout.
its hard to expect london to not make this look bad though just saying, they are still out of pocket modders, this was developed in house. just sayin well see if it ever gets released

They "outsource" it to people who not only love and play the game less than modders, but also have less technical aptitude.

The top mods are always better quality than the vanilla game. Just look at the release of the Hellfire armor. Before they released it in the CC there was already a free, yet superior, version.

horrible amateurish

if you walk around you will find that your character get stuck all over the place cause the terrain is too rough and needs smoothing. nowhere else in the whole map do you have these problems.

i would agree if it wasn't for world of warcraft proving they will just keep on keeping on. our opinions matter not when they are up against millions and its in their best interest to alienate their fans to then focus and wave down new passers by to cycle them threw too. nothing will change even if we stop playing they will just market to a new demographic

bungie too never leave out bungie.

I fear this is the correct take. It's never been about the enjoyment of the players, every developer decision ever made in this game has been about $$$$.

The unfortunate thing is that we continue playing because sunk cost, or FOMO, or any number of things like that. It's just part of the live service game identity. The correct thing to do is stop playing, but what else am I gonna do with my free time?

It's Bethesda. They don't make art, they make corporate products with productivity requirements and deadlines.
