If you already own it than the 'cost of entry' is nothing but the download.

Much has changed and much more will change in March (Ghouls will be playable).

How worth it is and how much time you'll spend is up to you, and you won't know that till you experience it yourself.
It's worth trying but the game is intended for casuals or people with real life obligations who can't commit to a full-fledged MMO. Don't expect the level of content you would get from WoW or FF15. That can be a plus though.

There are balancing issues too. Events are too easy. I'm standing there doing nothing while mobs die microseconds after spawning. I'd rather fail 1/5 or 1/10 of events but have fun due to challenge rather than win them all the time standing there doing nothing while everything gets one-shotted.

The base building aspect is also pretty nice and better developed than various housing systems in many other online games. So there is something for creative types too.

One of the things I love most about this game is the lack of a chat box.

All Fallout games are long. VERY long and 76 is no exception.
I've played since launch minus about 2 years until last June when I came back.
A lot has changed. So much that a new char can hit 50 much faster.
Those games are not like 76.

There is no level crafting. Plans can be found or awarded by enemies or quests.
Most mods for gear can be bought, sold, or learned by scrapping the item the can be put on.
PVP is all but dead here so if that's what you're looking for you're not going to find it.

The grind here is eventually the XP/level will take much longer. Almost everything requires materials to build or with gear to repair.
There's only one Raid right now and requires much higher level, higher gear, stats, effects, etc. to finish.
Expeditions used to be a hot thing but I haven't been able to get on one since I came back.

1574 hours worth it so far. Much more if I ever get into base building.:catinablanket:

If you own it. No reason not to try it out

If you're looking for a FO3/FNV experience where you can level up your specific attributes and skills without putting in work to augment and develop those skills, you might be disappointed. The perks/skills you can use are dependent on your SPECIAL points budget and can basically be modified on the fly. But that's only part of it. What makes people overpowered in this game comes mostly from their equipment. Endgame players have the ability to craft their own finely tuned weapons and armor specific to their build. To reach that point takes time hunting and scrapping.

That being said the game isn't pay-to-win, and the community is pretty chill. There are plenty of activities and questlines to keep things fun. If you already own the game, give it a shot.
Play till you decide for yourself.
Play to have fun.
Play till you get your monies worth.
Play some more.

i personally love the game, i love the base building, i love being able to play solo or join events with other players if i wish, i like seeing what other players have built an also hate seeing what others have built, i'm looking at you zero effort street builders :P i like going to players shops to see if they have any goodies for me and i love when people heart my camp after spending literally hundreds of hours working on them, when you start your camp will look like trash but put some effort into doin events an such for plans an you'll have an amazing camp in no time

i dislike constant whiners for pvp, people that gripe on the game in discussions or patch notes instead of just moving on, if you read it it's usually the same people over an over, sure the game is far from perfect, sure bugthesda have many bugs that need fixing, sure they nerf stuff that doesn't need nerfing yet leave op build be but you'll have a good time if you put the effort in :)

community is extremely nice for the most part sure you have bad eggs but what game doesn't?

TL;DR - Loads of fun to be had, Bugs found, Whiners whine, Unwanted nerfs, Awesome community.

It's either free or very cheap to buy, I got my 2nd copy (altaholic here) for like 2 bucks USD. It's an awesome game, they basically did a No Man's Sky and sorted the game out so it was worth playing. I've played since release, but I quit a year in and only came back last year but haven't regretted a single moment. Community is generally great and very generous, it's also great for solo players but you can team up if you want. As previously stated, the lack of chatbox is a huge plus for myself and many others. It's literally the only MMO I know of that allows you to be free of the utter garbage people will write or chat about in channels. For that reason alone it's worth playing FO76.

Fallout 76 isnt a game you main, it is a game you run around in between main games.

It is a very relaxing and chill game -- fun to acquire gear and get all the stats you want.

This is NOT a sweaty game.

Fallout 76 is a post apocalyptic, cozy, sims, non survival, rouge-less, scavenger hunt, dress up, camp building, non verbal emoting, no penalty for death, buggy, but still fun to play game.
