How does the collect wood surival challenge work.
The problem is what counts as wood? So I have been collecting since day one and now at level 130. I have 756 of the 760 wood need. I have picked up (weird thing to say :) ) every branch, fallen log, log piles, and firewood and after 100 hours still not finished. I just collected to logs outside of my camp and bulked up the wood I had and the counter did not move. Thank you.

It's not by the numbers you gathered, I think, but on how many times you get it (not the numbers). Also: this is still the middle one of wood collecting... The last one is just...

Click on fallen trees between vault 76 flatwoods ect each pickup counts as 1 .
Its not the amount (sadly...you'll know why soon) but the "clickage". It also seems like some "nodes" dont count for the challenge, like the buildable wood stack in CAMPs or i *think* the large log rolls you find in some areas like the Lumber mill (where its like 3 or 4 legs piled onto each other in a brace).

Best area to collect a few quick extra "clicks" is in Helvetia to the left of the spawn point, there's a shack that has about a dozen or so wood stacks (those seem to count weirdly) and more around the village itself as well.
Looting a wood bearing object. Finding junk which breaks down into wood is not included. See a log, loot a log.
It is 1 per time, I have received the 7600 Times Award.
Other good spots. After One violent night, run up the road to the logging camp. Each time into Foundation, both sides of walkway, and all around that area. Follow the river from the wayward, South, all the way down to town, follow dry river bed under high bridge down to train station. Many logs on that route.
the something brothers logging camp, the civil war museum top right(ish) corner of map both got a ton of 'stacked firewood' that all count for said challenges. Prob 30-40 stacks at each spot.(some are behind others so just mash button till u click all in front then move to the side a bit)

There are a few other places where a bunch of lumber is stacked as firewood in other areas too, if u want easy-quick rush of said counters, can prob get 300ish per server using this (and can reset it by going and grabbing the burnt books from the prof's house, switch server and redo)
Also try the Toxic Valley.
It's not that there are more logs there than elsewhere, but as the is no foliage you can seem them very easily.
Thank you. So we are not looking for wood, we are looking at logs. When I clicked on logs the challenge was completed easy. Poor word choice!

760 is just the start... now aim for 7600 nodes...

No you *are* looking for wood, its just that some nodes dont explicitly state whether they give you a "point" for the challenge or not. Scrapping wood items doesnt, but collecting it off logs, tree bark or the firewood piles all over the map *does* for example.

Yes logs are wood, but Bethesda for this challenge was, I believe, wanted us to collect logs and not wood (wood comes from logs unless it is manufactured and even then it still does.) As OrankTruk stated he got it easy. The only way to be sure is to start another round see if it is indeed logs. (Edit of first post I have played to 500 hours as this morning. That is to long to finish a simple task, given that in that time I have collected "wood" when I came across it as logs, firewood, or scrap. )

its easy to check actually, just track the challenge by clicking T on the menu (i think its T) and every time you pick up an item (by it a log OR wood), it will track and add it. This way you can actually check if its *specifically* logs or just any wood-giving resource. I didnt think to check myself so i cant actually tell you right now to be honest.
