AA Power Str Pounders
1st star is Vampires = heals me 2% per hit and its a very fast weapon so you are invincible.
2nd star is Heavy Hitters = +40% power attack damage (as the axe is always power attacking anyway its a straight 40% damage buff)
3rd star is Defenders = take 40% less damage while power attacking, you literally cannot die.
4th star is Vipers = when a combat target is poisoned deal +50% bonus damage. Obviously I am using the poison attachment for the auto axe.
This thing shreds anything while keeping me alive without even being a melee build character.
Switch out defenders for -90% weight(much less ap cost) or +3 str. Defenders 'works' in the same way '40% extra attack speed' works for autoaxe: IE It ONLY has effect from when u press button to when the auto-melee weapon starts doing damage. DURING actual attacking, the defenders trait is inactive.
the 90% reduced weight legendary mod VASTLY reduces ap cost (IE think with no buffs, all other things equal, u may get 5-6 seconds of continuous use of the AA without the mod, but 12-17 seconds WITH it. - Additional note: NO other weight reduction method works in this way, only the legendary mod does.)
Thanks for the info, much appreciated.
I have never died in combat wielding my Auto Axe, if I do I'll look at changing it like you said. I'm of the 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' mindset. I'm loving the new 4th star effects which have opened up many new build combo's for us to try out.
Going to try this. AA gets me killed.
Any armor/damage reduction/other healing sources, etc, just amplifies this and u can stand toe to toe with earl, in his pukepit, while 50 wendigo's are chewin' yo butt-cheeks and not feel it. (At least till u stagger and suddenly notice u are getting hurt in the short time as the vampire effect from a few seconds ago start expiring)
This is why i suggested the 90% reduced weight mod. This allows u to run the axe longer when u really need it(IE during boss fights, or if u wanna mow down 40 ghouls) - in no other case will u ever really need it(Lets face it, even the strongest SM is gonna drop in 1/3 a second when u tap it with the blade) The +3 str is a close second cuz it will add 15% more damage(which really, on autoaxe is such a tiny increase, but at the speed it hits, it adds up. Fast.)
I agree with you. It's the Vipers 4th Star that really pairs well with the axe's poison DOT effect that makes it a winner. I kill things fast that way so I don't worry too much about my 3rd Star, as soon as I touch them the poison drip icon shows under their health bar and they are gone.
If I run out of AP and 'Defenders' only procs whilst the axe blade spins up as you said, then running out of AP is a good thing - I am pulsing the trigger and getting -40% damage reduction every few seconds.
The game isn't perfect and we make the best of it as we can, but if Defenders works as you say then that is a very bad description they have for it, it clearly says 40% DR whilst power attacking which is exactly what the auto melee weapons do as they use up AP.
My axe works just fine for me, until they decide to change things and pull the rug out from under us again.
My current setup is an AA, 40 power attack, 3 strength, and pounders. Melee damage scales with strength. This auto axe setup is DPS king. You can run bloodied for more damage for everyday things
I used a Vamp 40pa Strength for a long time. Then realized it was a complete waste of potential given with Vampires you are trading off a massive amount of extra damage for an effect that can be completely replaced by just hitting the stimpack button every now and then. Seems like a silly tradeoff to me.
I'm glad you guys are loving auto-melee but I wouldn't shed a tear if it was nerfed.
OP weapons that don't even need builds to support them trivialize everything else.
It's not a game breaking weapon imo. Melee is high risk / high reward but there are so many situations you can't use it effectively in this game.
exactly you SHOULD be immortal with any competent build, hence vampires isn't great... plus the faster something dies the less it can hit you... but it was neat to use when ricochet triggers and your truely immortal
Power armour you don't even need a competent one to be immortal... -42% from the frame alone and the massive armour should put you at unkillable right from the get go
Full health you don't need much of a competent one to be immortal... you'll need the odd heal but nothing much
Unyielding you need to be running heavy weapons and a half baked build to be immortal
Had two Reflective on this Vulcan and now have four. Got to be honest, don't see any greater damage to the robot with four? Feel like i wasted the Reflectives.
Nothing is "game breaking" when its you vs the computer. But somehow one of the 2 weapons available for purchase in the atom shop just happens to be the BEST option for so long now it can't be coincidence.
