How to get Mirelurk eggs?

I know where to find them, but ever time I "interact" with them they just break. All of them across the map. I have run past them and did not shoot any where near them. Any secrets?

Secret is to re-roll the challenge. The eggs have been broken for ages and Beth has zero interest in fixing them. If you are lucky you might get Swarm of Suitors event trigger that gives eggs as reward.

If you have this problem, go northeast to Highland Marsh (left under Abbie's Bunker) or northeast to Mire's Eye cave, you can always find some there. If you don't see the cave yet (it was added a few patches ago), the easiest way is to go straight east from direction 79. On the map, it's a little to the left under the compass rose.

try your luck on Ohio River Adventures, theres a bunch there, if they havent hatched and turn into mirelurk spawns

Hang around Grafton Lake and see if "Swarm of Suitors" pops on the 3x-hourly timer event schedule.

also, like what others said, they are 'tangelo loot objects' so u may need to 'reset' your loot tables, by looting 255 objects (easy way to do this is go to the house with all the burnt books and just snag 200-300 of them and then just drop or scrap them or whatever) then try to switch servers and try the eggs again.

The mesh for them exists regardless(Show as intact eggs) but if you have looted them sometime in the past week without looting 255 or more items AFTER(loose objects not container objects) they won't reset.

Then you were lucky or play on private server. On public servers if they have been broken or looted relatively recently they show as intact and explode when picked up, it can be a chore to get them since it seems to affect all other eggs too and you need to server hop and hope they work on some other server or try to reset the loot spawns like AtmaDarkwolf mentioned in previous post. Imho it's just not worth the effort, easier to just re-roll the challenge.

On PC just hit E key to pick them up. Before you destroy them.

Picking them up makes them explode, that's the problem.

Go check the Mire's eye. There are a bunch in there and its an indoor area so you dont have to worry about someone else taking them first.

I agree this is the worst but...just had this happen. So first time I went to Highland marsh of course ALL the eggs broke when I touched them. Server hop to try again and this time just sat there in the middle of the eggs, crouched and stealthy of course. Suddenly eggs started popping and the critters ran off, none of the eggs I picked up after that broke...I dunno but just sayin.

it took 5 server loops to collect the 3

Why don't we have an item shop item that spawns them as everything else

Forest: Ohio River Adventure, has eggs, north shore, and south shore of it. Mire: Mire Eye, a bunch inside. Skyline Valley: Hemlock Springs Dump, a few.

Hope this helps, and they are not picked clean for you.

The eggs break if they have been already harvested and the respawn timer hasn't reset yet. It's not a bug. If you can't find any that don't, all eggs on the server have been harvested. You need to server hop to find unharvested ones
