Power Armor Mods Recommendation
Hi Vault Citizens,

I have a short question. I am trying to build my own Heavy Gunner PA without VATS.

High damage is good but I want to be tanky as much as possible. Recently got the full set of Vulcan armor.

I am thinking a combination like below.

1 star = 5 x Overeaters
2 star = 3 x Hardy + 2 x Endurance
3 star = 5 x Sentinels
4 star = 5 x Reflective or 5 x Rangers (Not sure what to choose because 25% increase in damage is also good)

Legendary Perks = Strength, Endurance, Intelligience, Taking One for the Team, Funky Duds and Sizzling Style (All maxed out)

I am not a meta crazy guy or trying to get the best gear&combination. Just want to have a very solid build that can nearly kill anything solo.

Do you want to be tanky enough to solo the raid? Or do you just want to be tanky enough for everything else in the game? The former is a bit tougher, as it also requires enough DPS to defeat EN06 in a short time. If you just want to be tanky enough for everything outside the raid, almost any power armor setup will work.

There are build guides on YouTube for the raid. To meet the DPS requirements solo, you will have to build for VATS or abuse auto-melee's currently overpowered damage.

Have you considered going ghoul? The extra health bar called "glow" would enhance your survivability a lot, but Overeaters no longer works with it.

Ranger's is probably not a very good 4-star bonus. It is likely additive with all other damage bonuses. Aegis or Rejuvenator's would help with survivability. Limit-breaking would let you do a VATS build with only 15 total luck.

Hey thanks for the answer. No I don't want to solo the raids. But I would like to just stand and absorb all the damage bosses can do :D Do you think Reflective is also a good mod ?

My personal opinion is that it probably isn't very good. I haven't tested it personally, but you can find videos of people who have.

Reflective does not reduce the damage you take.

Vulcan

Gimbled arms are absurdly good -50% spray which really tightens your fire

1 star - overeaters is a good mid ground... the thing is the ONLY source of damage is other players (assassins/ghoul slayers) or en06 (troubleshooters)

If you PvP - Assassins carries vs humans, and nothing can stop a ghoul from 110'ing you
If you PvE - Might as well build against the only actual damage the game has robots

2 star - Endurance is better, hardy hardly has any effect... at either rate with troubleshooters and PA you are immortal even without a 2nd star to anything aside from other players
...
Strength would be for melee
Endurance is a good survival choice
Intelligence if you want to level quicker (yes PA can hit 4000 exp vs super mutants too just needs more min/max than unyielding)
Luck will proc more reflected damage so thats a great choice too (but is more of a vats pick typically)

3 star - Sentinel is -25% now, but with diminished returns its only alright... the best 'min/max' choice vs players... but again ghouls will 110 you and competent humans will too so kinda moot...
vs en06 you already get more than enough out of troubleshooters to not worry
vs every other pve encounter you don't need it at all

Thru-Hiker 3* does free up BOTH travelling pharmacy AND thru-hiker perk cards so its a good choice

4 star -
reflective is good 50% all returned damage, you already get pretty good ricochet return in PA so its a minimal increase

rangers 25% is only additive so yeah its more damage, but its typically like a 5% overall damage increase with all 5 pieces... technically a min/max choice for DPS, but your build is NOT focused on min/max dps anyways

rejuvenators is a great qol one, not only ensures immortality but the ACTIVE ap refresh means you can jetpack more, run longer... again this tends to benefits vats more

Choo-Choo is fun, its 500 pure damage to things you run by
