Perk descriptions not clear
Do the Guerrilla, Gunslinger and Tank Killer perks work on automatic and non-automatic rifles? Do miniguns work on the Gunslinger - after all, it's also a ranged weapon? Which weapon is "small"? Only one-handed pistols?

Yeah they are pretty vague now but, the long and short of it is the gunslingers work with any ranged weapon, 'small guns' is pretty much all that - if its not a heavy weapon its probably a small gun. So pistols, rifles, automatic pistols and automatic rifles all the same thing now. (actually brb should tests bows/crossbows now that im thinking about it.)

Small guns as defined in game help is pistols (inc. revolvers), rifles and shotguns.

Heavy guns and bows aren't small guns.

Side note: Even though Pepper Shaker uses shotgun perks it doesn't count as a small gun for perks. Similarly the LMG is listed as a rifle yet it too doesn't count as a small gun for perks (tank killer perk for example).

Welcome to Fallout 76
In a related note, "close range" seems to be about 2.5 to 3 foundation lengths. Roughly flamer range.

Yes close range is SUPER close. Almost touching them.

Website here is pretty good. https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/10mm_pistol_(Fallout_76)
Go to the "perks" tab of the weapon's little stats bubble, and it says which perks are compatible.

This game is incredibly counter intuitive in what does what in relation to what. You have to go online and get help for things that should be either explained or obvious in game.

If it says heavy guns, it will work on heavy guns.
If it says bows, it will work on bows.
If it says small guns, it will work on any gun that is not a heavy gun or a bow.

If it says something even more specific (like automatic guns, semi-automatic rifles, etc)
then the gun has to match that specific designation. See for example Commando, Rifleman, etc.

All of these are considered ranged weapons.

Miniguns are heavy guns. Automatic rifles aren't heavy guns - so, going by above, that would make them small guns.

---

The changeover for small guns was mentioned in patch notes. It's less obvious in game.

It is also somewhat outdated at the moment. For example, that page lists Gunslinger for non-auto damage, and Guerrilla for auto damage. It no longer functions that way. Gunslinger and Guerrilla don't have a non-auto/auto separate. They function for all ranged weapons. And included Packin' Light for weight reduction, despite that perk not doing that anymore (it is now an AP regen perk).

It has been updated to include Tank Killer for penetration, so it is being worked on.

Gunslinger should work on any ranged weapon now. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The pictures are out of date, but the text seems mostly right.
