Does Server Hopping work for you?
So this question is in reference to the Fasnacht event. I'm not going to engage in lengthy commentary on the practice of server hopping besides saying that it is bad for the game in general but understandably arises due to malicious and malignant game mechanisms influencing player behavior. For example, how would you ever find an enclave box mod in one human lifetime without hopping? You wouldn't.

Now I'd like to hear the experiences from others on attempting to hop. I'm not interested in hearing from the board sowing circle and "friends and family" club. There are other things at play there. Regular players, casuals, maybe people who aren't long term players. People who don't make a lot of posts here, people who aren't getting rares...etc. What are your experiences like with hopping?

I ask this because I'm curious about if you are able to execute it as so many of the "veteran" players seem to be able to do. While I don't in general participate in the practice, I kept reading about how many enjoyed success doing it, somehow even getting a rare 3 event sequence. I tried somewhat extensively, jumping when the event ended in 10 minutes or less and I was able to connect with a second event only one time. Out of many dozens of jumps only one time did the game load me into an active event.

In fact, it seems to me that the game deliberately lags and gives me an unusually log load time prior to placing me in a world where the event has "just wrapped up" or often, even into a new world depending on the time of day. I'm curious to see what others experience in this regard.

I think it depends on time zones and location.
Like if your in a low population area it will limit server hoping, like for instance i'm in Australia and i feel i keep getting put into the same 3-4 server instances because it's keeping me in my ping range.
I'd imagine places like the US and Europe with a much higher population, servers and time zones for server bases, that server hoping is much more effective.
Why is server hopping bad for the game?

It's a bad user experience for a start.
It also creates lag due to users and their camps being injected into the world.
It removes a spot for a person who might have been joining to stay on the server(meaning less full servers).
I could go on...but it's generally a bad thing.
i play on european servers and could only get 2 rewards at the same hour one time.

Regular player. In recent weeks the events that are scheduled have increased the need to server hop. But the problem is that if I hop from server A to B and then hop again, half the time I'll get turfed back to A. I do wait a short time between hops to which long load times have to be added - end result is I won't even get to attend 1 event in that timeslot.

I don't see server hopping as bad, they really should have added a few things

Search on the default auto join - prioritize seasonal events, prioritize specific event (aka rad rumble) just toggles that you can click and if the ping isn't absurd it'll place you in a world where that is going if possible

Ex. you go to join world and you've selected that you want to do the eviction notice event it will do its best to land you on a server with it

Friends list should have an icon for each nuke boss, an icon for seasonal event active, and then in words what event that server is doing

Ex. you can see if a nuke boss is active, if the seasonal event is active - then you can choose which friend to join up with

So bugfesta has 24 max for a server, but they really only expect any event to host no more than 8 people (hence the cap on earle and private servers as they expect if they have 8 buddies they will be hanging out together) more tends to make things laggy... more people, more actions, more explosions, more lag... people jetpacking to the moon

With regards to THIS event
It takes about 45 seconds to a minute to hop a server, load in and know the event is a go or no go - LARGELY because of the number of players, here is where those dozen or so AFK'ers really add up on the server load - We all feel the pain, but those of us longtimers know which friends are afk or slow and we can go with a bunch of buddies bang out an 8-10 minute one and then get extras

IF you finish your event at the 8 minute mark (very fast) you probably can hop to any world and get it like 90% of the time (as that minute delay really hurts)

By 10 minutes 40% or so of the events will have finished, and your chance of getting a double dip is about 40% (that minute again)

By 12 minutes 80% or so of the events will have finished, your odds of getting one are pretty slim 10% or so

By 14 minutes you might as well give up, unless the other server was REALLY slow to start you won't find one, and a lot of people pre-game the requirements so only the musician and sometimes eggs are a slowdown

Getting a 4x dip requires some world to be late... This is already an act of Todd to get that many, more than that is Toddivine intervention

Regarding to the enclave plasma mods or even the aligned flamer itself it can happen, specially when you're not even looking for them. Seems like the less you care the higher the chances.(more than likely placebo)

Regarding server hopping it does feel like there is a delay a lot of times specially after the event completed pops up.

Now with server hopping the golden time is 8 min anything after that even at 9 min 90% of the time its already done. I was talking about this with a friend that it seems that even though their is a lot of afkers, most of the events are being finished by 2-3 people very fast this time around. If you are within thst golden time chances are they are still fighting super mutants so you can help, plus get another legendary from the mini boss.

I personally carry 50+ wood 15-20beeswax,and 10+ porcelain steins. So i can do 3 bots instantly(depending on if they are the marchers that spawn or not). Another thing is arriving early to prepare (collect extra wood, steins or beeswax in case you are low)
I've got it!

What if Bethesda adds checking to the world join mechanic like it has with Raid joining? You know how we can't join a raid while a stage is in session? How about if we can't join a world while a public event is in session.

Genius!
Depends how long it takes my Internet to load in. But at Hooters it works good as long as I Tip good.

Blocks a lot of people who join in the first few minutes though

Realistically they should tie rewards to participation

rejig rewards to paper mache

1 for worst
2 for low 65% chance of happening
15 for average 20% chance of happening
50 for great 10% chance of happening
250 for best 5% chance of happening

if you don't participate you get the minimum every time

So afkers get 1 paper mache per hour

if you do a minimum of things (find robots, complete tasks, shoot things, stay within 15m or whatever, of the march) your participation bar fills up... finding robots 2% completing robots 3%. Damaging an enemy 2%, marching with the event 1% per 5 seconds, being within 15m of an enemy dying 1%, looting enemies corpses 1%, any hey I'm active and doing stuff contributes

Have it have 25%, 50%, and 100% fill rates

at 25% you drop the 1 mache thing from the possible pool of rewards
at 50% you drop the 1 mache and 2 mache thing
at 100% you drop the 1 mache, 2 mache and 15 mache thing

SO at 0-24% you ONLY get 1
at 24-49% you are able to get 2,15,50,250 but its % chance
at 50-99% you are able to get 15,50,250 and the odds are 85%, 10%, 5%
at 100% you are able to get 50 or 250 and the odds are 95%, 5%

Then add a vendor

Common masks for 5 mache
Uncommon masks for 25
oldest rare for 50
old rare for 75
oldest glowing for 100
old glowing for 150
new glowing for 250

now if you are active your best and typical result would be 5 events for the mask of your choice

5 hours of time to get what you want

This would serve the dual purpose
Elimination of afk'ers
Elimination of server hopping

as neither would reward well

before crafting mods i used to hop after every exclamation mark event if i didnt find what i was looking for. Nowdays i server hop just to find a raid group. Either of the experience was miserable and i wished fo76 had a marketplace like guild wars 2 or even elder scrolls online and dedicated servers for raids/explorations

I don't bother trying to server hop. It's one more thing that could break the game.

The problem with rewarding “activity” is that it is quite possible to be at the parade and doing stuff, and get aced out of everything but actually marching.

But once again maybe I’m just lucky. But doing maybe two parades a day between 9pm and 11pm eastern time I have never had an issue with getting a perfect run. There are always lots of people doing things so even the AFKers have no impact on my enjoyment of the event.

The only time I’ve had a less than perfect run was on a private world joining a in progress with only two other people and healing fire wasn’t working so we lost three bots. Next hour, the same three of us got a perfect run.

If you ant to do a RAID or even a Daily OP severing hopping is not an option but a requirement (unless you're into beating your head against the wall soloing).

I don't server hop to increase my chances of getting a glowing mask.
Although yesterday when I was running my character that is fresh out of the vault and has been doing most of the parade work the robots decided to go on strike halfway through the parade and refused to move.
I went to a new world but their parade was over.
Later that day the newbie was doing another parade which completed in the usual time.
I switched characters to do a Daily Ops and upon loading in I saw the parade on that world was still active.
Surprisingly the marchers had only got as far as toad corner so I did another parade before the Daily Op.
