Way to mod Steam game?
I see there's no workshop for FO76 mods on Steam. But I know Nexus Mods has some mods for the game. Is it possible to use Nexus mods for my Steam game? Or is there any other way to mod my Steam game?

If you are a n00bie, how did get to an idea to mod an online game you are not even familiar enough?

Here's a short rundown of modding this game.

First of all.. It's easy to mod manually, and you should avoid using a mod manager for this game because they tend to cause problems.

If you are familiar with modding other fallout games forget what you know about them, this one is totally different because we cannot load plugins or mod the ESM. 99% of mods on the Nexus for this game are BA2 archive files, which modify things that only you can see, nothing that other players can see.

First thing, install this game's version of a script extender, which is needed for some other mods to function. It's called SFE. It simply unzips into the main game directory (steam/common/fallout76)

Second, install your mods by unzipping them into the fallout76/data directory.

On most of the mod pages you will see an optional download for a fallout76custom.ini file that's needed to load the mod. Download ONE of these and put it in your documents/my games/fallout76 folder. Now open it and where you see the file name of the mod file you downloaded it from, add the file names of all the other mods you put in your data folder, with a comma separating every file name (no spaces, just commas).

It should look somthing like this:

[Archive]
sResourceArchive2List=10SMGDS.ba2,PerkLoadoutManager.ba2,ProtectronGlassFix.ba2,xpup.ba2,SafeAtomicShop.ba2,SaveEverything.ba2,Silentchameleon.ba2,BetterSeasons.ba2,BetterPatch.ba2,V63CarbineReflex.ba2,BetterExplosiveBullets.ba2,BerryMentatsRedx3.ba2,TZmap.ba2,BuffsMeter.ba2,ChatMod.ba2

Note that for certain mods the load order DOES matter so pay attention to the description tab on each mod, but a general rule is always load chatmod last.

Also be aware you will need to update some mods every time the game updates and till they're updated they can sometimes break the game (not in a permanent way though).

An important thing to know about modding and playing FO76 is that Bethesda only tacitly condones mods that affect the cosmetic appearance of your game. You can change colors of things, make things highlighted, substitute textures, change the way information is displayed, etc; you cannot change things like chance to hit or be hit, the functionality of armor or weapons, etc without getting banned.
