To be fair, Legendary Ammo factory is nice, but levelling it up takes a long time. You want to waste 100s of levels of perk points on this thing while you could be getting more actual value out of your legendary perks? I have mine sitting at Rank 2 for a long time. I'm not looking to put in 100 perk points for Rank 3 while I could be spending this on things that actually give value. I use the ammo converter in combination with the Raider Collectron (which generates random ammo) so it actually has more value to buy this thing as opposed to maxing ammo factory and not being able to equip perks that actually affect your stats.

Don't know why people respond to this looking at it from a level 300+ perspective to give advice to newer players. Sure if you're level 1000 and all your stuff is maxed then this thing has less value. But picking this up early has a lot of value. It's like the other day I'm reading a vet give advice to a new player stating he should rank up a legendary perk to rank 4. I mean...
The OP mentioned past play indirectly and asked for how it is now... so i am uncertain about the levels, can't really tell.

"In the end" it's some micro management for some output. Depends on ammo and if you're using ultracite and if you like doing such and so on. Crafting ammo efficiently isn't necessarily a waste, in a game, where so many things simply are up to your taste. Ammo factory kept me going when i was playing few, but also only had a few stable fluxes in total. "In the beginning" always counts and it can make sense, if you can just place it and use it. What you would do with 500 atoms or would you buy 500 atoms, another question, the OP left a few things open, though you could guess, they already have it...

After all there is a lot of factors, and it certainly can make sense to use the ammo converter. Playing time, style, used ammo, selling and buying, and others. I never felt it made enough, admittedly that's been the "meeh-times", likely, so i scrapped it. Impression is, that for my ammo, daily ops and crafting get me significantly more than a converter can, though it's an invalid comparison with ultracite ammo. Plasma sniper/quad/boss-flamer would work in daily ops without ultracite too, i assume. However if you combine everything you do anyway, maybe plus a little extra, it may just work out. I'm rather selling some of the ammo i find, and buying 10mm for the crusader pistol, complicating things for the calculation.

So for your question: the OP left it unspecified, and most people just answer based on their situation or general opinion, i bet.

The ammo converter exists because you can't actually sell ammo to any vendor for caps. You can sell grenades and mines to vendors, but not ammo, the whole tab is empty if your try. Otherwise you're stuck with excess ammo, or dependent on finding the converter at a persons camp.

Saves a lot of lead and steel making your own, or caps buying it in. Gets rid of unwanted heavy ammo (rockets, mini nukes) Using super duper perk can get 1000's of 5 mm rounds for my Super fast Gatling gun

He was talking about player vendors.

This works well for CAMPS that are in popular areas and if you sell ammo that other people want. If you want to get rid of missiles and mininukes and such it's just not going to happen. don't want certain ammo types sitting in your stash for too long as they weigh so much it's just going to max your stash.

It's decent. Definitely worth it IMO. You have a choice, you can hoard ammo on a mule, or hoard ammo on a mule and then exchange it for points later so you don't waste your life using that terminal all the time.

It's a good decoration item, and it does have its uses. I see alot of new players using mine at my trading post. Every couple of weeks I'll convert large quantities just to supplement my regular ammo supply. It's great for converting trash into fusion cells especially.

What do you use fusion cells for?

Gatling plasma, gatling laser, laser rifle/pistol, ultracite laser rifle/pistol, tesla rifle and pepper shaker with the right mod.

Actually Gatling Plasma uses Plasma "cores" which are completely different ammo type. Same with the Laser Gatling and Ultracite version, which use Fusion Cores, the same as what Power armors use.

Tesla Rifle, laser rifle/pistol, Ultracite laser rifle, laser modded Pepper shakers, and laser modded Crusader Pistol are the weapons that use fusion cells.

I don't have Ammo Converter yet, but it probably can be good combo, if you have collectron collecting ammo and weapons for you.
Ok ok ok ... didn't account for some of them. Thought i was trolling...

The way the ammo converter works is a perfect reminder that 76 is, in fact, an MMO.
