Aristocrat or overeater for armor?
Cant really decide which one is better for my BoS recon armor. From what I understand, overater gives you % damage reduction, while aristocrat just gives you defense points, like regular armor does. So my question is, which mod is better protection wise??? Note that I, of course, will always have plenty of caps and lots of food and drinks to consume

You're probably going to hear a lot of votes for Overeaters, but I say Aristocrats.

Now the explanation. Next update there'll be plenty of perk cards to boost DR to ridiculous levels, probably over 1000 will be achievable.

Recon armour is classified as heavy, heavy armour gets a % boost to the ricochet perk. Ricochet gets a damage reflection boost from DR.

The combination of high DR and high reflection chance make your armour your most powerful 'weapon'. Minigun and Firestarter Super Mutants will kill themselves, easily.

Edit: Patch notes.
Damage delt by Damage Reflection effects is now scaled by DR.

My understanding is that there is a soft cap for high levels of damage reduction, and so all flat % are superior... this is why power armour is popular, and so for normal armour, i'd go with overeaters.
there is difference to damage RESIST and damage REDUCTION. Overeats probides a flat % reduction in damage where as astri(besides being tied to cap level) is a damage resistance addition. After 300-350 dr (or er, etc) the returns get less and less effective as you get higher (IE 1000 dr is about 30% better than 300 dr as example, obviously numbers yanked from anus to describe)

But if u can hit 300 dr without legendary mods, overeaters will hands down, give you far more effective reduction in hurt value being dished at you.

As Derrilin explained above.

Overeaters is easier to maintain than aristocrats.
Even Nocturnal if you server hop and play only at night is a much better option than Aristocrat. 5 Nocturnals gives you +1200 DR and Energy resist.

Also: correct if wrong, but it used to work in all indoors areas (regardless of time of day outside) so ... in almost every single situation where u would WANT/NEED the extra defenses, u would be covered. About the only time I can see it being an issue is the SBQ fight (and she is a pushover, can even fight her nekid if u wanted these days)

Have no idea now, i used it awhile ago as my first set of armor before i switched to OE. I know that shadowed modified armor gives a stealth bonus regardless if you are in complete darkness or direct sunlight, can't say about Nocturnal.

Huh? Once you get your caps up it far easier than remembering to constant eat not to mention a lot lighter.

Here's another reason you may not want overeaters, if you intend to become a Ghoul.

Ghouls don't eat or drink so have no hunger/thirst meters. Currently it is bugged on the PTS where they act like they are fully fed/watered 100% of the time, but they might be fixed before going live.
