Randomly falling through the map
Anyone else experienced this? Never had any issues with this in 1900+ hours now, but it has just started happening. Was in a completely different area each time.

Yesterday was the 3rd time in a week where I am just walking along a path I have walked many many times and suddenly i'm falling through the ground repeatedly in a loop and I die and cannot get my loot back as it is underground.

I feel it is server related as these are exact paths I have walked many times and when I go back to these exact spots I cannot get it to do it again. I'm sure other players have walked all over these areas too. So if it was an actual problem with the map we would have heard about it.

I've had issues of the game not rendering everything, but not falling through the map.

Happened to me in the Cranberry Bog, mainly, but long time I have experienced it again ... .

its happened to me once and i had some odd message flash up on screen about changing veiwpoint or something like that and i was also unable to respawn after dying from dropping through the ground
Its real good coding when you have to stop the client and relog it to respawn your toon

It also happened to me once, on an older computer, the world wasn't loading fast enough and I ran into an invisible crate and fell through the world.

Oddly enough it warped me back to the surface unharmed only to fall through the world again.

Then warped me back up to the surface in a downed state and fell yet again!

After that the game decided it had enough and finally killed me when it warped me back up to the surface for a last time.

got this when i build my house near harpers at the lake, mostly at every time i fasttraveled to my home i got teleported under the groundlevel in the water and not really fell, but was total stuck under the lake ground (not the normal stuck in the foundation blocks) . sometimes the falling came on top of that. ever needed to fasttravel a second time there to fix it. that was the matter i camped somewhere else in the end.

Not yet, I am sure it will eventually happen. I think it is a tribute to Daggerfall. :)

Happened to me near Foundation along the ledges below it. I could respawn after dying but could not get loot back. I went back to that area and it didn't happen again but still showed my death location but under the ground. Just as Insert Food Here said.

Happened to me at Flatwoods and I just started the game, after that it disconnected me from the server so now the items are 100% gone. Aside from that the game just doesn't want to load sometimes. Just got the game, already about to drop it.

Yes it can happen but as posted it's a once in a blue moon thing. I think I've experienced it once per every thousand hours of play. If it's happening with great frequency to anyone I'd say the first steps are (of course verifying files) then checking your FPS changes/video card updates since it started happening.

Clipping isn't a huge issue, but it can happen and is one of the reasons transfering items via drop is unwise (I once blipped out an AA enclave plasma rifle with top mods meant as a gift). Getting stuck in interiors or adversely falling through stuff can be a fps-clipping issue. I vaguely recall some other mechanic that affected this for another user and I'll edit this if my search finds anything of use to players.

Delete anything as a last option. Totally possible for seemingly rando files to become corrupted and verification to totally miss em.

**Please note this is quite an old post. The OP themselves found a number of solutions to the issue, and this is not a new thing.

Not yet in 76, but I've fallen thru the ground in games using this engine.

I'd wager people are acting fishy in the game again.

Falling through the ground has happened to me in so many games over the decades. It also has a wide variety of causes.
- Bad navmesh
- Server desync with a laggy server and places you under the navmesh
- You load into an area faster than the server loads the area
- Loss of control like fear in WoW or Earle's scream runs an animation sending you under

Also keep in mind Fallout 76 has a base exploit that allows you to build under the navmesh. Which shows how easy it is to break and glitch it.

What people do not realize or forget is you can move your camp device around inside the border of your camp and it can change where you land when going to your camp.

Old thread... Blame Covid and lockdowns... You'll have just as much resolution...
