I think it's already optimal as it drops.
I only bought an extra flame shishkebap mod from a merchant and attached it to the iron.
One good thing about it is that it takes a long time to break and the extra swing speed can keep the tougher foes staggered.
I use it for the Human Condition expedition as it melts the weeds after applying the full set of one handed melee perk cards along with a glowing steak and carnivore mutation.
I learned a long time ago that sometimes, enemies can get close.
Remember how man of them tend to turn into the Flash and ZIP across the landscape?
If you've got an enemy you know won't take much to kill then why waste ammo even if you've got tons of it?
Both of my chars have several weapons of the kind they use.
1. Rifles with this Fire Brand weapon as a melee backup.
2. Shotgunner with a 2 star Gauntlet as a melee backup.
I've had little problem using it but some are higher lv/dmg sponge so not optimally on them.
