A ZOTAC graphics card is pure trash
Please do not ever buy one of these!

I tested these cards on Fo76: (these cards are the SAME CHIPSET)

Zotac Card:

Pros:
Small
Cheap-ish

Cons:
CHEAP ASS JUNK FANS
Fan bearing noise - constant
Cheap AF fans that SERiOUSLY will break in one year (check the net if you don't believe)
Cheap connectors giving your game and pixels a blurry look
Small heatsink
Small diameter fans, loud and inefficient, cheaply made
Poor cooling leading to FPS throttling and stuttering

Idle temp: 37 degrees C
Load temp: 80 degrees C which is the maximum for this card and the temp that it starts throttling.

MSI Card

Pros:
Everything
Ultra quiet, large diameter fans
Large heatsink
OC
Temps under control and no throttling
quality connectors giving you a super sharp picture

Cons:
Big!

Idle temp: 27 degrees C
Load temp: 56 degrees C

THIS IS 24 DEGREES C (how many F is that?) Lower than ZOTAC card of the same exact chipset when running Fallout 76. 24 DEGREES that is HUGE. There is no throttling of course because card never reaches 80 degrees C. The fans are at least 400% quieter than ZOTAC garbage with no ZOTAC-trademark clicking or wobbling noises.

What absolute garbage I am returning these ZOTAC!

Copypasta:

"Zotac was for a long time, 2nd tier gpu, along with PNY, Galax and others of similar values. 1st tier being Asus, Msi, Gigabyte, Evga and Sapphire.

Zotac, like most 2nd tier gpus did one thing. Took a reference board, jacked the clocks to the hills, and slapped on a different cooler. No custom pcbs. Just wild claims on performance and cooling. As a result, you got high performance cards, but at the cost of little OC room, and very touchy with temps and excessive speed fans.

It's only in the last couple of years that Zotac and Galax etc have stepped up and designed custom pcbs for the cards, which has the advantage of being able to use better spec'd parts for the higher power draws."

Got 2 ZOTAC cards thinking maybe I just got unlucky with the first one... NOPE... THEY BOTH SUCKED.

It is a D-list GPU
masternoxx1 Nov 7, 2024 @ 3:01pm
It's no better than the cheapest lowest quality Chinese knock offs.. because that's exactly what it is
masternoxx1 Nov 7, 2024 @ 3:09pm
They thought they'd make a little extra money by skimping on the fan quality knowing the fans probably would last a few months and then when they break which they will, most consumers would have thrown away the warranty info by then and just throw the GPU away instead of complain.

PURE GARBAGE & GARBAGE COMPANY & GARBAGE BUSINESS PRACTICES... they are out to screw the very people who bought their products.. they don't worry about the fact that that is morally wrong... because they are scum... and their products are junk... and they know it

What models of these GPUs you are talking about?

Nothing new or unexpected about a smaller heatsink struggling to dissipate heat and getting hotter temps as a result and being more noisy as the fans need to spin more and the cheaper noisy fan bearings get exposed.

I have used ZOTAC long time ago for PCs i was building for others and they were ok but i was buying better models that i knew were decent. Not the low end ones.

Currently got a GALAX 4070 Ti as it was hundreds of dollars cheaper than a MSI Suprim X or ASUS Tuf etc.... Been great for me. Excellent performance and cooling and super power efficient. With the undervolt i am using some games even run 50% of the time in fan stop mode as it just barely gets hot enough for them to spin up.

So not all cheaper GPUs are awful. You need to do your research.

Please let your BRAIN buy the next GPU!
Lets see?
I want a fast car.
Porsche looks good...
911 looks real good.
But too much $$$$$$.
Ohh!
Porsche is made by Volkswagen.
Ahhh!
Ahhh, the Volkswagen Golf R is the ticket...
Uh oh.
It only does 155mph.
911 does 193mph!
I WANT MY MONEY BACK!

I agree with you on the MSI card. I have an MSI card and it's excellent. Won't be trying a Zotac any time soon :-)

Not saying all cheaper GPU's are awful, only ZOTAC. (Which is the only one I've tried)

Before had Gigabyte and EVGA both good cards but this MSI one is better than those as well.

You can get lucky with the fans and have no fan issues but I think that is unlikely with ZOTAC. You will have issues, if not now, for sure later. This info is all over the net from others about how terrible ZOTAC fans are.

Also who wants to hear a cheap ass fan rattling and wobbling and ticking every second their PC is on? And... It will usually just get worse as time goes on.

These cards all throttle at a certain temp so unless you are running older less demanding games or have a super powerful GPU, it will reach max temp at which point it will throttle. Obviously, that is why cooling is so important. In fact it is the most important thing besides GPU power on a GPU. But ZOTAC must have thought it wasn't that important.

Quality fans, fan diameter, heatsink size, quality thermal paste, all parts of cooling system are of paramount importance, but ZOTAC thought they'd skimp on the fans and be cheap..

I like a lot how the ZOTAC card was much smaller but MSI card has taught me the benefits of a large heatsink are worth it

In fact the ZOTAC card looks very cool (thats why I got it) it is small and grey and black and looks better than the MSI which is bulky and kind of ugly but who cares after I put the side cover on?

I remember back in the day when Abit and MSI were the Zotac and GALAX of video cards haha. And poor PNY... They and XFX are absolute garbage.

The MSI OC cards have "propeller fans" (look just like an airplane propeller) which they advertise to move 30% more air and be 30% quieter and it appears to be true. While I can't prove 100% it moves more air (temps show that it probably does tho), I can for sure say the fans are super quiet.

Kind of ugly tho, lol

It makes sense to me that a fan design coming from (a long history of) aviation would be the best design

I like to call this the "GPU death spiral" effect

absolutely right smaller heatsink causes higher temps causing higher fan rpms (especially if fans are of a smaller diameter), causing excessive noise, fan wear and eventually premature fan failure of cheap low quality fans = death spiral / ZOTAC

poor testing, poor design, and inexperienced GPU maker,
if tested correctly testing would confirm it needs a larger heatsink & larger fans.
they probably know this by now, but they don't change because they don't care about their customers and are only in it for the money not to make a quality product.
Or, they care more about looks over functionality

all dependent on which game you are playing tho, how hot your gpu gets
a powerful GPU chip and more modern one probably won't get near as hot a cheaper one under the same load (but some certain GPU chips do)
I read reviews and avoid the ones that say "runs hot"

ZOTAC idle temps were fine tho it just couldn't handle my load :steamfacepalm:
Don't cheap out on the PC case. Can make a BIG difference in CPU and GPU temps.

Volkswagon Golf Mark IV was an awesome car tho. I had one! It was stick shift and had awesome acceleration, masterful handling, and super fun to drive!

I would have chosen probably a Ford Mustang vs. Pinto analogy instead :steambored:

I have a big case with plenty of vent holes it even has them on the top, back, sides of course, it's very well ventilated, with so many vent holes it is nearly the same as having the cover off.... exhaust fan at top back and works very well...
Hot air rises of course so I always put exhaust fan at top of case... PSU fan works great as one actually... any little extra heat there is not removed by exhaust fan, rises out of the top vent holes naturally. Use case with many vent holes, and Exhaust thru top and you won't have any heat buildup. Heat wants to go & always goes up so I let it escape that way. It's very effective.

also when I was using the ZOTAC I had the entire side of the case off so I'm relatively sure it was getting plenty of fresh, cool air

The MSI card would not have been at 27 degrees idle if this were not the case with my... case

do you by chance know put food here?
