Another player took over my quest?
So I had the quest to launch a nuke from Silo Bravo. I also had the quest to nuke the mine (for whatshername at Foundation)~ 2 birds, one stone, or something like that.

I went in alone- I was not on a public team, and no one else was there with me. I have friends I play with occasionally. But, when they're not online, I want to be left alone when I'm questing.

It took ages to complete solo. But I did. So imagine my surprise when I get to the last room, and there's another player who's already launched the nuke.

The whole thing was a waste of both my time and resources (since it's my items that I used to craft the mainframe cores). And I didn't even get to complete my quest.

I suppose my questions are:

1) can other players just enter my instance whenever they want, even though they weren't there when I started and I'm not on a team?

2) short of buying my own private server (or however Fallout 1st works), can I prevent them from doing this?

:steamfacepalm:

Thanks,
-von

Yes, anyone can join you in the silo, and no, short of Fallout 1st, you can't stop them. It would be nice if the silo locked after a certain point.

Sorry that happened to you.

The silos are not instanced. Anyone can enter. If you are a sneak player you might have been invisible to him. This type of thing happens occasionally, they probably used the photomode glitch to get to the control room quickly.

I agree, and thanks.

I am a sneak player, so that makes sense.

What's the photomode glitch?

It's a way to get through 2 locked doors and bypass skip some of the silo.

Oh man, what a letdown. But thank you for explaining.

Don't worry this type of thing doesn't happen too often.

Yeah you need rank 3 lockpick and hacking to bypass thoise doors. The door is located in the reactor room so you can skip that part that way.

Nah like Jacks said, photomode for 2 doors and if they want power armour for everything much quicker

Bethesda could fix it, they are aware it happens (its 99.9% of the launched nukes done this way probably, aided by the fact that those who do this can launch them in a minute or so then do two more and finally hop servers and repeat) and easily could track who does it by progress of the quest to launching the nuke but they don't

They picked their own target, so I got credit for the nuke-launching, but I couldn't complete my second quest because they had already launched the nuke.

I don't know that I can be arsed to try again. But maybe at some point.

This literally just happened to me. I was trying to do it legit my first time and some dude just photomoded his way through. Absolute bummer, man.
Yea, it's pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥ when someone uses exploits to hijack your silo run. If it really bothers you, catch their name when the server announces '[Name] has launched a nuclear missile!', or whatever the message is, locate them on the map or on recent contacts on the social menu, and report them for exploit/cheating.

I try to give people the benefit of the doubt -- the silo can bug out after all, and I'm on the fence about whether it's abusive of the game to clip through the doors if you have already given the silo run an honest effort only for the launch chief to bug out completely so you need to do the whole run again on another silo/server. If someone has already given it a legit attempt for that specific launch, only to have the game bug out and rob them of their time and resources.. it's still exploiting a game bug, but in order to recoup what the game promised denied to the user due to the product being intermittently faulty.

That said, the person joining you in the silo should be able to see that you're in there, and if they just exploit to pass you and take control of the quest, that's never cool.

Well the PTS has apparently fixed the power armour glitch (but not photomode) so no more 1 minute nukes for people

Happened a lot to me. People like to go in and glitch to the end. Really frustrating.

My newly added lower level friend wanted me to help him in the silo. Well, I never bothered to go through that quest myself (some teammate finished that quest for me too when I was on a public team), but I still wanted to help this friend so I agreed to go with him, but when we got to the elevator, it didn't work, it said something like access denied, the silo was locked, so it actually DOES close itself when someone already launched the nuke. I solved it simply by calling him with the call emote, I quickly loaded my private server and let him join me and we launched the nuke from there.
