Excavator Armor: Vanguard Prefix?

Is it possible for an Exacavator PA piece to have the Vanguard prefix?
Because I wasted 5k scrips and got nothing

Yes it is possible, had a few last few weeks with the Tax Evasion runs.

A little side note: better invent in the T-65 / Union PA, way better in every way then the excavation PA. Just saying... no more no less.

Yes, you can roll a vanguard excavator power armor. The only one you can't roll for any of the power armors is Unyielding.

Vanguard is one of the worst effects you can get. You have maximum resistance and full health, when you don't need it.

Bolstering is more useful as it increases resistance at lower health, when you do need it.

But... the game being the mess of mathematics it is... neither are worth it. The 'best' options are % damage decrease ones.

Each PA piece has a built in 7% reduction for 42% with a full suit. All incoming damage is already reduced 42% before hitting the resistance equation. Reducing this incoming damage further (% off the remaining 58%) will result in far less damage getting through.

Either generic ones like overeaters or creature specific ones are the superior options.

I'm always lacking carry weight, so excavator.

I thought because I'm not bloody, aka radiated and low health, I might as well take the opposite option.

But even overeater is rare.
6.7k so far no Vanguard. But mass Hunter

So you realize the Union PA has +75 carry weight and 150 posion resistance? Maybe 25 less BUT... way... WAY better then the Excavator PA. That PA is a low tier while the T-65 and the Union PA are top tier PA's.

At max level WITHOUT any other perks (which reduce the effectiveness)

5x Vanguard

vs

5x NOTHING

is a 13.5% damage reduction from vanguard WHILE at full health

Overeaters is
25% damage reduction FROM vanguards
38.5% damage reduction from nothing


Vanguards is a terrible roll to be aiming for

Excuse me.
I ran excavator till 180level.
On my first toon...
Since then.
I keep it for mineral farming.
But yes at 50 start getting better PA.
Then later get better armor with perks...

Vanguard and bolstering are both very poor compared to overeaters. Bolstering is better than vanguard as Mooman pointed out. You are getting more DR and ER when you need it as you take damage.

If you are spending scrip on legendary modules for legendary crafting you should be aiming for the best prefix not the inferior ones.

I do have a full set of overeaters excavator PA, that i used to use before upgrading to Union PA, and it is incredibly tanky for one of the lower sets.

The Bolstering, It's insurance. Near death experience protection. Then you want the exact opposite when you aren't meeting those NDE conditions. To be as high and sturdy as possible with vanguard, and for your automatic stimpack helping effect to keep you at the top. Nerd rage with a bolstering, and using first aid 3 make a reliable stay in this life setup.
