If you are interacting with anyone who isn't a robot (with the exception of getting the first holotape from the Wayward), its not part of the original main quest. There were no living NPCs in the game at that time. Living humans (other than the players) didn't appear until the third expansion, which was the Vault 79/gold bullion stuff.
The real end game/main quest is to escape from appalachia and never come back
Then Wastelanders released with people coming back to Appalachia and opening Vault 79.
Next the BoS came to see what was happening and moved into the Atlas Observatory. Their main quest was in two parts released separately and involves some garbage.
After that the 'Responders' occupied The Whitespring. Their main quests involve expeditions to The Pitt initially and expanding to Atlantic City. The Russo family quest is the main quest of that expansion.
Finally, to date, is the Skyline Valley Vault 63 stuff.
As a side note all of this is optional as nothing is locked behind any of it. All consequences happen in private instanced areas. I've played over 5000 hours and still haven't completed the original main to drop a nuke, never will. I can still attend nuke events and receive the rewards just fine.
