My Fallout 76 Game Freezing Experience.

Every since I upgraded my desktop to Windows 11 (from Windows 10) I started having issues with Fallout 76 freezing for seconds at a time. Mostly the screen freezes but the audio is mostly still playing.

I upgraded windows on a dual monitor setup; 1900x1080. After researching and trying every solution online.....none of them worked. And yes I updated all drivers for everything.....nothing.

My working solution was to switch from borderless window to full screen as borderless wouldn't work. Then when the game was running and I could play for maybe a minute, I would click on the second screen. Fallout would minimize on the first screen. Then I click on the desktop of the fallout screen before clicking on the icon on the taskbar to bring up Fallout again. Then it would work without issue. I did this every time I played.

Now today, I upgraded my monitors to a single curved 36in one with a resolution of 3440x1440. So far so good....until I go to play Fallout. doesn't work in ful screen mode and I edit the ini to go borderless window and the new resolution instead. And I'm back to the freezing again. Tried everything again and nothing.

After of hours of googling and trying I decide to change the resolution 2560x1440 using borderless....and it works. But it's a borderless window and doesn't cover the whole screen and the taskbar is at the bottom and it takes up a tiny bit of the screen. So I set the taskbar to hide and guess what.....the freezing returns. so I undid that and it's working. The taskbar doesn't really block anything so until someone fixes this I'll have to live with it or maybe find a better solution.

So I typed all this to maybe help someone else and perhaps find a better solution that works....or it gets fixed (not holding my breath on that one though). So it's completely playable, just with a little compromise.

Side note I upgraded my laptop from Windows 10 to 11 and Fallout plays just fine. Go figure. (both are on Steam).
