Ammo farm
is the ammo converter still the best way to farm ammo? seems like it got nerfed and doesn't exchange as much ammo anymore (returning player)

As far as I'm aware, the ammo converter has consistently been the worst way to farm ammo. What you want is the ArmCo ammunition construction appliance, which produces a certain number of ammo per hour depending on the type of ammo.

Alternatively, equip the weapon that uses the ammo you're looking for and go farm expeditions.

I exchanged some of the atoms that the game gives you for the ammo converter.
Early on when I was running out of ammo I tortured myself by using the tortuous interface.
I still use it to turn missiles into points which I turn into ammo that some people buy in my shop.
It would be better if you could load ammo in without having to do it in set multiples.
Currently I am doing expeditions to collect stamps for Union PA and have so much ammo that I dump some or don't always bother picking it up.

I don't know if that will happen. This community tends to find exploits using boxes like that and not using one is basically the best way to avoid that.

Basically, AmmoConverter is only good for FO1st, even then it's questionable. It's a painfully tedious process and tbh if the contextual ammo isn't working for you, you should look at your build. You're wasting far more ammo than you should be. If you have FO1st, store it up in the Ammobox until you can do big stacks. It's lack of Ultracite options limits its value even more.

I honestly only have it at my CAMP cause it's a neat machine that spins when you click on it.

No it is totally not the best way tgo get ammo.

Do Expeditions (Tax Evesion) or do OPS (UPLINK) fix 1 signal reapter, find a good spot and kill as many enemies as you want. Both get you tons of ammo.

I used to use the converter but, once you know where to get the components, making it is simpler.

I now donate the rounds that take up stash space like 40mm and missiles and keep the rest until i have a few thousand of one type and then convert. Plus donating seems to generate ammo types I want in donation chests.

It's not the best way to get ammo.
But what i do is scrap everything i don't need, and am at max caps at the trader, is dump all the scrap except steel.
I convert that into railway spikes and put those into the ammo converter.
That way you only have to convert one type of ammo.
i just craft bulks at a time, each time i craft a ammo, i craft 100k of each one and then stash it. when your playing this game you tend to just gather and gather to the point of having millions of pure rss to use on crafting.

Contextual ammo is working fine for me. What used to happen though is when I would kill Cryptids at regular random encounter spots that I would pass when I walked to the train station to trade my loot I would expend more ammo than they return.
Also the expedition that I am currently repeating is very easy.
I don't fire a single shot.
I use a one handed melee weapon with extra flame.
(before the trip back I hold one of the ballistic weapons I use to get the right ammo for me.)
Thus the foes drop an assortment of ammo which I am drowning in.
I had been putting most of it in the CAMP vendor but have found that only a few types of rounds move.
Fuel and Fusion Cells are popular.

I find 5mm ammo pretty nice to collect, for miniguns and gatlings, I don't know if they save ammo or if you get more than the others...

Sounds about right. Anything for good automatics will sell periodically too, if you don't have FO1st, then I would just drop everything else. It's not worth the effort imo. Any gains from managing ammo beyond that aren't worth the effort.

if you have unlocked expeditions, Tax Evasion in Atlantic City ( casino quarter ) is where I go.

You can solo it, though Buttercup may be a pain, but loads of ammo drops and you usually get 200-500 ammo as part of the rewards.

Just take and use the gun you need the ammo for ( ex. hunting rifle for .308 ).
