Apparently, there is a weapon that can take 1/4 of the health away from one of those Storm Goliaths in one shot. It seems that way anyway. My best weapons cause no discernible damage but I plug away. Then WHAM the thing lost a 1/4 of its health. Then another and another and suddenly it is down. Wow. I want whatever is doing that.

I know shotguns can do a lot of damage when combined with the Concentrated Fire perk to target weakspots. VATS makes all the pellets hit the weakspot instead of spreading out. And if they used a critical hit, it ignored any damage reduction the enemy might have had (some enemies have a percentage based damage reduction as well as the normal damage resistance armor gives). Combing that with the Herbivore mutation with the right foods and critical hits can do a great deal of damage.

I hadn't thought of that, mainly because I don't use VATS.

Gamma gun. They have a vulnerability to rad damage unless it has been fixed. Yes crits are good but not that good.

bloodied build, automatic melee weapon like chainsaw autoaxe or drill and the overly generous perk. You can cheese kill all 3 goliaths in ~20 seconds solo.
