Newbie Question

Is there any reason to carry around a shovel and pickaxe? Will I need these to mine/dig stuff up, or am I just wasting carry weight? Thanks.

Not needed for mining etc, both are melee weapons and one daily quest requires a shovel but the quest area has several of them so if you don't use them as weapons then sell them for caps or scrap for materials. You can learn a mod for pickaxe by scrapping, shovel doesn't have mods.

Never used a pickaxe, and only used a shovel on that daily quest, Buried with Honor.

I carry 90% weight reduced shovels on all my toons just for that quest. :D They are useless as weapons but funny for killing critters in Grahm's cookouts, pickaxes are decent low level weapons when modded.

Shovel has a single use to carry, but 100% of the time one will spawn within 5' of that events dig spot

Pickaxe is just a melee weapon

I just learned you can mine in the game. Ssdky the nodes are a little hard to find if you don't know what to look for but once you know what the look like they're easier to spot. The good thing though is you just hit E when you're targeting it.

If you use Excavator power armor you get more ore from those nodes.

There are mines on the map you can go to, too find a bunch of nodes in one place

Glad I asked, I spent level 2-20 with a shovel and pickaxe wasting space in my inventory because I thought I would need them
