Do people not play Public Events anymore?

Playing on console way back, I remember that public events were quite often and the best way to get legendary weapons? Did that change? Or are some notifications turned off by default?

If so, what is the best way to get better/legendary gear?

We just had the Mothman Equinox seasonal event for the past week, so doing that on a near-hourly basis for a chance at rewards has pretty much forced veteran players to take a break and stop playing for a while.

Haha, yeah I can understand event burnout, i've been there. Is there an alternate way to get legendary guns outside of events?

There are new players who don’t know. But on servers I am on, all events are attended unless they are the garbage public events.

It's because servers are almost full of the new players that are either shy or still don't know how/want to join public events

it's been very quiet the last few days. I only see people at mutated events.

Currently with massive wave of new players its very hard to play public events, if you have a server with only new player, they are busy questing and care most times not for public events, i dont like playing such events alone, i had to pass on mutated events today again, sad.
Hope this normalizes soon, new players getting done and doing public events too.

You get mutated and mutated party packs from them, which contain legndary items and occasionally ultra rare plans.
Have to complete the event though. The party packs are when multiple First subscribers are present at the event (thx guys)

New player here and I've mostly waited until my character was above level 20 before jumping into any events. Today I had some free time so I played all day long and I did about 4 or 5 events. Sure, I had no idea what I was really doing but most of them were just killing swarms so it wasn't too difficult to figure out.

Public Events seem to be the best way to get levels, junk and decent gear and I plan on doing a lot more this weekend. But yeah, I think all the other new players probably don't realize how useful the events are. And the game doesn't do a very good job explaining how to join events, why you should join them and very little explaining what needs to be done once you do.

i've been trying to find people doing the mutated events, but its usu. one person or no one. several server hops didn't yield better results - feels like a waste of the mutated event.
the handful i've found were mostly people were under level 40, but we easily (mostly) cleared the events

I haven't seen any event notifications, is there an option or am I just not paying attention? Or do you only get them past a certain level?

Going to be honest OP. Most people will leave events if someone else comes by. The only real team things are the Daily Ops.

I'm disgusted more or less seeing other people in the game world, especially when they got some foolish edger name. So I will leave the event if they come by. Begin to throw emojis up in game and I leave the world and rejoin.

Also there's recommended level wall on most public event, which is totally ignorable,
But new players don't know that, that's why they won't join the event.
